After four lawsuits alleging he coerced young males into sexual relationships were filed, Georgia pastor Eddie Long took to the pulpit Sunday to carefully nuance his side of the story.
Long, the charismatic who leads his mega-church of 26,000 members, told reporters after Sunday’s service that he would challenge the allegations. Joined by members of his legal team, he carefully read from prepared remarks — always a sign of innocence.
By now we know how the redemptive process works for a televangelist accused of sexual relations with young males. First there is the allegation. Then there is the carefully worded, non-denial denial in which he says he will “fight the charges.” Then the preacher puts his jet and all the money he has yet to get into the bankruptcy-proof corporate shell he controls. Then his lawyers handle the settlements while the preacher gives lots of ensuing sermons on forgiveness.

More evidence that the “dynamic, Spirit-directed, multi-gifted, prophetic, and excited” men of “god” are just a bunch of Elmer Gantrys on steroids. This junk is no more the Gospel than Catholicism.

Catholicism doesn’t claim to be the gospel. Catholicism spreads the gospel.

Well, that didn’t take long. It’s amazing how a thread about alleged homosexual misconduct by a “Reformed” pastor turns into yet another “let’s bash the Catholic Church” thread.
The church I go to pays the pastor $2,000/month, so we don’t attract the jet-setting pastor types. However, this article is obviously written by someone who hates any religion. Maybe the pastor is guilty. Maybe not. I don’t need to know, since I wouldn’t ever give him a penny anyways.
Well, I imagine Eddie would say the same thing. So, if you insist, redux:
"What Eddie and his ilk peddle as the Gospel is no more the Gospel that what the Catholic Church peddles as the Gospel."

Sure, just look at the priests from Rome...money and denials seem to go a long ways.
What is the gospel?
Anybody can beat the rap legally. Morally no way. The issue for the church elders will be determining the truth and then whether they are Christians or hucksters.
By the Scriptures, only Christ does it right. Thus, Rome is both a sham and self-deceived.

the Good News
Just curious, but how can a thread about a guy who is neither Catholic nor Reformed (and quite possibly not Christian, either) turn into a thread about Reformed vs Catholic? Aren’t there already enough 6000+ post threads for that never ending argument?
