As we await the beginning of October and the promised revelation of candidate grades from NRA's Political Victory Fund, there is a way to determine who the association is supporting in a most important way--with that life's blood of politics, money. And while we've learned from the situation with Harry Reid that contributions don't necessarily equate with formal endorsements, a testimonial to the media and a hefty check don't exactly hurt, as this statement from Reid campaign manager Brandon Hall demonstrates:
"The NRAs relationship with Sen. Reid has been long-standing and productive and unlike for Sharron Angle theyve put their money where their mouth is this cycle. Along with their financial support, the declaration of NRA head Wayne LaPierre that Sen. Reid is 'a true champion of the Second Amendment' and that 'no one has been a stronger advocate for responsible gun ownership than him' shows beyond a doubt that the NRA believes Sen. Reid to be a strong advocate for Nevadans Second Amendment rights in the US Senate."
One gets the feeling if certain parties were winking any harder at each other, their faces might seize up.
So how can we figure out who else NRA is giving money to? I ask, because a New York Times analysis from Aug. 2009 told us:
The National Rifle Association is pouring money into the effort to oust Gov. Jon S. Corzine of New Jersey.

America! It's about

The NRA has been infiltrated by Socialist/Communists.
They won’t receive a dime of my money. They’re now the enemy within.
Just like the Unions, the NRA has turned AGAINST the dues paying members.
MEMO TO NRA: Hairy Reid is destroying the jobs of those dues paying members you are ignoring. Hint hint
I refused to renew my membership this year
they called me for renewal after i didnt send in a check and i told them i could not be a member of an organization that aided and abetted Harry Reid
he gave me this song and dance on how they were neutral in that race etc etc etc
so i then brought up all the Dem House members they were supporting
he said they were progun
i said the voted for Pelosi as Speaker who is antigun and therefore i could no longer be a member
that shut him up
The gun companies better wake up. They provide a lot of support to the now commie NRA. The NRA really has gone downhill. The board of directors needs to be removed by t he dues paying members.
Unless his opponent is a drooling communist, being "neutral" in a race involving Harry Reid is supporting him. Plus, did they give Angle $5000 like they did Reid? If not, how does this stooge define that as "neutral".
The VFW, American Legion and ALL of the Large “Veteran” Orgs are affected this way too.
“....they were neutral in that race etc etc etc”
Neutral my eye. They’re not suppose the be neutral. What’s the point in having an organization if you’re neutral, unless your organization is called ‘Neutral Voices of America’?
The problem is they’re not neutral, and the party they support is our enemy.
Go pound sand, NRA.
You may be right, and it would certainly fit with the left’s playbook. I think the time has come for us to do the same. It's time to get conservative control of traditionally leftist organizations, by stealth - the same way they do it.
B) There is room in political marketplace for more than one Pro 2A group.
you don't hear Green Peace criticizing the Sierra Club criticizing the World Wildlife Federation...
I joined the NRA in 2008 after seeing so great ads against our Assclown in Chief. They will not get anymore money.
If they want to appear non-partisan, they can behave like the NAACP (except go the opposite way). Once in a while they can endorse Democrats in races that are basically already decided. This cycle probably endorse Blanche Lincoln and whoever Tom Coburn is running against. Do something similar each cycle then say things like “we endorse candidates from both parties every cycle” — it would technically be true, but not really you see. The LibTard morons are certainly evil morons in every sense except when it comes to playing the political game — there they’ve got us beat by a country mile when it comes to playing the game and cheating.
zzz
another snorefest article from neil about how the NRA is evil and has no influence, despite them being the most influential 2nd amendment rights organization because they are “evil.”
if only you spent as much time attacking the other side instead of those allied with 2nd amendment causes.
I’d read the NRA was NOT supporting Reid.
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/08/27/for-reid-no-nra-endorsement/
This kind of thing really makes me mad. I think Reid has been playing them like he does everyone else. He comes out with some phoney position and then after he gets you reeled in he slams you against the ship of state. The Current NRA leadership is clueless.
NRA supports folks they believe are the most supportive of the 2nd Amendment. They're generally neutral on non-2A issues.
Emphasis mine to point out the error of your thought. They don't support parties. They support candidates who support the second amendment, REGARDLESS of party. Where two candidates are both pro-2nd, they will support the incumbent.
It's really not hard to follow. It's a very successful strategy for influencing policy. However, it's not ideologically "pure" and thus will cause the anti-NRA FReeper cabal to try to shut down the most influential gun rights lobby we have.
Exactly. IIRC, the NRA was a supporter of Howard Dean when he was governor of Vermont. Dean sucked on virtually every other issue, but was seen as strong on gun rights.
y'all think your names aint already in the hands of janet..?.
This is why the "GOA" is irrelevant. It's an organization that casts every issue as gun-related and has no focus. It is ignored by legislators and its only purpose is to extract money from confused NRA-haters who think that because the NRA is non-political (outside the 2nd Amendment), they are enemies of conservatives.
