Officials in Indianapolis are turning up the heat on a bakery that refused to take an order from a student group seeking rainbow-colored cupcakes for next month's National Coming Out Day.
A spokesman for Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said city officials are conducting an inquiry into the bakery, Just Cookies, which declined to take the order last week from a diversity group at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), which ordered the cupcakes for Oct. 11.
"The city's position is, it's the city's market, it's a public place," mayoral spokesman Robert Vane told FoxNews.com. "There is no litmus test for buying services of products at the City Market."
Just Cookies owner Lilly Stockon defended her bakery's decision last week, first telling Fox 59 that the shop doesn't make cupcakes, and then telling a reporter that she didn't have sufficient materials to make the the rainbow colors.
But her co-owner husband, David Stockton, said he had a different reason for refusing to take the order.
"I explained we're a family-run business, we have two young, impressionable daughters and we thought maybe it was best not to do that," he told Fox 59.

Maybe on a nice sheet cake?
ROTFLOL!
Pretty good.
Why would anyone try to buy cupcakes at a place called Just Cookies, anyway?
If you have a minute, write them a good review at one or both spots.
Turning down business to serve one's conscience is not stupid, it's courageous.
They’re a cookie bakery. Maybe the mailorder cookies?
:-)
ROTFLOL!
Some idiot thinks they are violating the Civil Rights Act? Unbelievable!
Just looking at it from the bottom line. That being typed, it’s THEIR business and it’s THEIR decision.
Just a question: WHY would this group order cupcakes from a business that specializes in cookies??? Could this be a set up to cause problems for the business and the owners?
I noticed one of the reviews was trying to say “black” is the same as how orgasm stimulation is achieved.
The fact these homosexuals are doing this speaks volumes on their recruiting day “celebration.”
If these public accomadation laws were equally applied, we’d see nightmares like a gay tattoo artist being forced to ink “Leviticus 18:22” or “Fred Phelps rules” onto somebody, or a Jew being forced (as you mentioned) to make swastika cupcakes.
That was my point when some (including to our shame, some FReepers) supported forcing pharmacists to provide abortifacients or lose their license. Many of the pharmacists targeted were in Chicago and it’s suburbs...where there’s a pharmacy every few blocks.
Do what I did: Call 317-327-3601 and ask the phone folks if the mayor would be OK with forcing a gay tattoo artist to tattoo “God hates homosexuals” on some hatemonger. The phone jockey was NOT pleased.
Funny how the tolerance-preaching sodomites ALWAYS prove to be INTOLERANT of anyone who disagrees with their lifestyle...always.
What bugged me the most about that wedding case was “Bride #1” getting the vapors like Nathan Lane in The Birdcage over “the hate” in an email that said something like, “We’re sorry, but we don’t photograph gay weddings. Thanks for your interest!” I know it was the loss of freedom that should burn my hash, but the whininess of calling that hateful (whether she was telling the truth or being dramatic for effect) in a world where people die horrible deaths for their beliefs was just disgusting.
So, a gay tattoo artist would be stupid to turn away a guy who wants a tat reading "God Hates Fags?" Is a Christian stupid if he refuses to make T-Shirts that say "KKK" on them or "My abortion was awesome?"
Turning a person away because they're gay or black is indeed moronic. Turning away someone who hates and works against what you believe (especially in the case of Christians) is choosing God over money.
Excellent points.
They have discovered a legal exploit to abuse those that wish to remain apart.
1. Of course it’s a setup. Up the thread someone with first hand knowledge said that there are many Christian owned businesses at that place.
2. When people are willing to silence their consciences for money, civilization will crumble very fast. That is indeed happening before our eyes. Money making divorced from all sense of right and wrong is evil.
Excellent!
