Local law enforcement and federal agents conducted a checkpoint operation Tuesday afternoon in Douglas County, the Federal Air Marshal Service told the AJC.
"This is a live operation intent on deterring would-be terrorists or criminal activity," Nelson Minerly, spokesman for the federal agency, told the AJC.
The operation created a big distraction to motorists heading eastbound on I-20 in rush hour, and many motorists let the AJC and the WSB traffic center hear about it.
But the operation, which also involves the Transportation Security Administration, is top-secret before it happens, Minerly said.
We dont advertise when theyre going to happen or when theyre going to be," Minerly said.
Mostly trucks were being checked, Minerly said. Shortly before 6 p.m., nothing had been recovered in the operation, he said.
"There's no specific threat," Jon Allen, regional spokesman for the TSA, told the AJC.
No rear end. Something IS up. Too many terror related issues going on this weekend and now.
Air Marshalls and road blocks?
Bummer trying to look vigilant?
Every 18 wheeler going into Atlanta on Interstate 20 must pull over and be inspected.
Move on, nothing to see here. My keaster!
Is this Atlanta?
Yep. Something has to be up. And I believe it is international. There are similar things going on in Europe.
I agree. “something is up”

Federal Air Marshals
Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service
The Federal Air Marshal Service promotes confidence in the nations civil aviation system through the effective deployment of Federal Air Marshals (FAMs) to detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts targeting U.S. air carriers, airports, passengers, and crews.
Federal Air Marshals must operate independently without backup, and rank among those Federal law enforcement officers that hold the highest standard for handgun accuracy. They blend in with passengers and rely on their training, including investigative techniques, criminal terrorist behavior recognition, firearms proficiency, aircraft specific tactics, and close quarters self-defense measures to protect the flying public.
Federal Air Marshals have an ever expanding role in homeland security and work closely with other law enforcement agencies to accomplish their mission. Currently, air marshals staff several positions at different organizations such as the National Counterterrorism Center, the National Targeting Center, and on the FBIs Joint Terrorism Task Forces. In addition, they are also distributed among other law enforcement and homeland security liaison assignments during times of heightened alert or special national events.
Successful accomplishment of the Federal Air Marshals mission is critical to civil aviation and homeland security.
What state are we in here? Georgia? What city?
Getting from point A to point B on an airplane that you’re not flying is a cross between blind luck and statistics (after all, most planes make it).
You see, when the idiots judges first okay-ed “sobriety checkpoints” by their rulings, somebody should have dragged them off the bench and slapped them around the courthouse.
I don’t think the feds should be doing roadblocks and stuff, thats not a big step from troops on the streets
Feds issue terror watch for the Texas/Mexico border
Snip: In a separate case, Anthony Joseph Tracy, of Virginia, who admitted to having ties to Al Shabaab, is currently being prosecuted for his alleged role in an international ring that illegally brought more than 200 Somalis across the Mexican border. Prosecutors say Tracy used his Kenya-based travel business as a cover to fraudulently obtain Cuban travel documents for the Somalis. The smuggled Somalis are believed to have spread out across the United States and remain mostly at large, court records show.

Basically, it's the Western Atlanta suburbs. The operation is on I-20 between the Alabama border and the city of Atlanta.
These are FEDERAL checkpoints... roadblocks... this is eerie indeed. One step from troops on the ground.
And TSA? Their not even law enforcement officers.
Neither of these two agencies has any experience conducting checkpoints, Im not sure they even have the authority. The only feds that have checkpoint experience and authority are Customs and Border Protection and the Border Patrol.
I dont get it.
There are Mumbai-style terror attacks planned for major cities in Europe and the U.S. that the feds are trying to disrupt. I expect the terrorists for the U.S. plot are already here and on the move.
Muslims terrorists are on the move inside the U.S. on their way for a Mumbai-style attack on several of our cities cities. Hopefully they can be stopped.
