Pelosi: 'I fully expect to be speaker of the House five weeks from now' By Michael O'Brien - 09/28/10 01:20 PM ET
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she still expects to have her job in five weeks after voters head to the polls.
Pelosi, the top Democrat in the House, whose job as speaker makes her third in line to the presidency, said she would retain that position.
I fully expect to be speaker of the House five weeks from now, Pelosi said at a NBC/Universal women's forum in Manhattan, as reported by the New York Times.
I have great confidence in my candidates, she said, and theyre doing just fine in their districts.
Pelosi's been confident to date about her party's fortunes going into an election cycle in which her party is expected to fare poorly. House Democrats in particular are in a tough position, fighting to stave off the kinds of losses that would hand control of the House to Republicans.
The GOP needs 39 seats to take back the House, and projection services show their candidates within striking distance of doing so.
Pelosi's words are also a confident prediction about the state of her own power in the House. Republicans have long criticized her since she became speaker in January of 2007, but some Democrats have also begun distancing themselves from the reliably liberal Pelosi.
Some centrists facing tough reelection challenges have refused to commit to vote for Pelosi for speaker, and other members, like Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), have run advertisements distancing themselves from the speaker.
Republicans seem to suggest some opportunity from the internal Democratic discord, as well. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), the chief deputy whip for Republicans in the House, suggested over the summer that if Republicans come close to winning the majority but ultimately fall short, the GOP could poach dissatisfied Democrats to effectively rule the House.
“Madam Speaker, I fully expect you to be flat on your arse spinning down Rodeo Drive.....”
I address her as: Ma’am
Ma’am, I fully expect you to be flat on your arse spinning down Rodeo Drive.....
I’m going to file that alongside her “worst economy in 40 years” pronouncements from six years ago.
Then every once in a while, I’ll take out the folder, page through it, and L-A-U-G-H.
America is going to have your head on a spike in 5 weeks.
I stand corrected.
When Pelosi’s prediction doesn’t happen, she will claim the CIA lied to her about that too.
I love watching that old hag destruct.
Beat me to it.
I guarantee that the Cowboys will not win the Super Bowl this year!
This woman is either insane or knows there is going to be a lot of cheating.
I don't know that you needed an 'or' in that sentence. An 'and' will do...
And I fully expect to win the lottery everytime I buy a ticket.
Wow, wouldn’t that instill confidence in you if you were a Democrat?
Nice statement nitwit Nancy. Even I’d expect you to be Speaker of the House five weeks from now. Come January, however, enjoy the back bench.
...and then you and Harry finally get up to face the media...
Perfect. Grab the video of that quote and tie every vulnerable Dem rep to Pelosi.
What a gift.
She is even dumber than she looks! Nothing will change on November 3rd. Except all that hopey-changey crapola will be in the past.
When the new Congress is seated in January 2011,I’m betting Princesse Pelosi will not be Speaker... hell, she may not even be present. Any takers?
Pelosi couldn’t speak her way out of Nursery School, no offense to all those smatry children she poopedon with the health. “...you must vote on before you can read it.” I wonder how much Enzyte her husb...oh nevermind.
Now can any great FReeper photoshopper do some justice with maybe a few of these pics? My photoshp crashed...Not very good anyway.
With the uncovering of massive fraud in Houston, TX, and knowing that other major cities have the ACORN/SEIU/Union thugs doing all those shenanigans everywhere (and in Democrat enclaves, where they own the ENTIRE political machine, including Judges and Secretary of State’s, they steal more than they “really” win.....(Minnesota comes to mind for their last “U.S. Senator”)
