In a shortage economy, rationing forces some hard choices. Democrats running for Congress in both chambers have discovered this as donors have begun closing their pocketbooks or tapping out, and the desperation for dollars has them competing not against Republicans but each other. Politico reports that a dwindling pool of patrons are being pitched by Senate campaigns to skip sending any money to House candidates as Republicans will take control in the next Congress anyway:
House and Senate Democrats are increasingly competing against one another over a small universe of deep-pocketed donors who could make a financial difference in the final stretch before the midterm elections.
In some cases, donors report that they are being urged to fund Senate campaigns at the expense of the House, where Democrats are in danger of losing their majority.
One House Democratic fundraiser said that some Senate operatives are telling big donors and union officials, “The House is lost; you have to save the Senate.”
Some House Democrats are fighting back with their own pitch:
While top Senate Democrats insist they don’t use that line, some House strategists are playing their own angle. Their money pitch: House Democrats have worked overtime to pass President Barack Obama’s sweeping agenda, parts of which have been stymied in the intractable Senate.
Er, good luck with that argument. Nancy Pelosi had a 77-seat majority in the 111th Session; would an 87-seat majority have made any difference? That pitch almost demands more focus on the Senate rather than the House — except that the Democrats also had an 18-seat majority in the Senate for most of the year, and at least for a few months a filibuster-proof 20-seat majority.
The problem with their agenda wasn’t that there are too many Republicans opposed to it. It’s that there were too many Democrats opposed to it. The “sweeping agenda” was too radical for mainstream America, whose voters thought they had elected a fiscally responsible Congress in 2006 and a post-partisan moderate as President in 2008. Surprise!
And that’s also the reason why the Democrats have an increasingly smaller universe of deep-pocketed donors. Their Wall Street friends finally woke up and smelled the class-warfare coffee and have stopped contributing to Democrats. CEOs who pronounced themselves agents of Hope and Change in 2008 now openly accuse the Obama administration of an anti-business bias. Thanks to two years of Obamanomics, people have less money to give to politicians, and those who do are much more supportive of candidates who want to curtail spending and the explosion of ambiguous rulemaking that have become the hallmark of Democrats in this session of Congress.
Now Democrats have to get used to a shortage economy in the political markets. That’s what happens when politicians spend their time creating shortage economies for the rest of us.
RE: if we win say 75 seats in the House we will win the Senate as well.
Newt Gingrich though, is trying to dampen over-enthusiasm.
His personal “realistic” estimate is the GOP takes 48 House Seats (more than enough to win majority), but takes about 7 Senate seats (not enough to win majority in the upper house ).
I heard him say so on the radio.

Staff: But boss, you are not running till 2012.
(o)bama: and your point is what? I don’t care a whit about what happens to those hapless shills I have up there in the Congress, is that not clear. I am important, after that nothing is relevant.
Staff: We will not be able to advance your program your excellency.
(o)bama: You, what do you do...I set the tone, I run this government. I decide what gets pushed. I know what is best for everyone of my voters. I will ensure they get to share in the wealth of this bloated, lackey, colonial state.
Staff: Sir, I would be careful not to say that outside this room.
(o)bama: You questioning my judgment when I deem it necessary to let the people know what I intend to achieve.
BTW, when is that rock technician coming in to put my face on Mt. Rushmore?
Staff: Er, your excellency, we had not decided to do that till you were out of office.
(o)bama: Out of office, I intend to be president for life. Get moving on that and I want a postgage stamp too, a new coin and my face on some currency also.
Staff: Well sir, all the coins and currency in use are taken, Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton Jackson and Grant amongst others.
(o)bama: Do I have to point out to you the common theme in all of those? They are all white people. I want complete a completly racially unbiased money system.
Staff: How about a new three dollar bill?
(o)bama: who said that? I am not a fag.
Staff: Sir, your alternate life style voters will be not happy to hear that.
(o)bama: Hum, perhaps a 3 dollar bill then. Meeting ajorned, I have a tee time and rev up AF1, I need to go visit the provinces.
Staff: By your command your excellency.

The dims are dead meat....it follows to see if the republicans are back under the tent....if not they will be in big trouble too!!!
Amen! if they go squish on us again we are looking at the historic birth of a Conservative opposition party and the slow, lingering death of the GOP.
I hope rinos are a minuscule part of the party and we can either make converts out of them or send them packing ...either way is fine with me but having liberal bills pass because of the likes of Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins should be a thing of the pass. We need to make the hacks realize we are willing to throw the dice on getting a conservative or a Democrat....no rinos
I really hope that the Gopers don’t fall for the idea that it’s futile to pass any repeal bills because they won’t get a vote in the Senate and if they do, ‘bammy will veto.
Those things may happen, indeed, but even so, it’s not “futile”. It illustrates the necessity to get rid of 0bama in 2012, as well as the obstruction of the dems in the Senate.
As their poll numbers drop you’ll see them stop spending what money they DO have. As I understand it they get to keep any campaign money that’s left over. Just one more thing that needs to change.
Believe me, there’ll be a sequel if the republicans get in and don’t make the changes that show results.
Amen it’s what this election is all about and the same for 2012.

We have spent the past 2 years learning just exactly what STANDARDS Pelosi adheres to.
