In an interview broadcast on Monday's ABC News' World News Tonight With Diane Sawyer, Bob Woodward, author of the new book, Obama's War, told Sawyer he was unable to 'crack the code' of silence surrounding First Lady Michelle Obama.
It was a startling admission from the man who made himself famous with Watergate and later claimed to have sneaked past CIA guards to obtain a deathbed confession from Reagan CIA Director William Casey.
It is also a testament to the fear of Michelle Obama that while classified documents are routinely passed to Woodward, no one dared say a word, kind or unkind, about the First Lady.
Sawyer introduced the subject of Michelle Obama, saying, "It turns out even Woodward, the king of getting people to talk, can't crack the wall of silence aoout the president's formidable wife."
Sawyer asked Woodward, "You've written before about Laura Bush's role. Where is Michelle Obama in all this?
An uncomfortable Woodward replied, "I don't know. And I confess to not cracking that code, and I wish I had."
Sawyer followed-up, "Glean anything about her role?"
Woodward meekly responded, "She wants him home for dinner on time with her and the girls."
I think the chip is on her arse, which is the size of Baltimore.
If it's anything like the "Cone of Silence", its inpenetrable ...
Agree, she has always been angry. Given a pass on admission to Princeton, then Harvard, she was angry at not only the white students there, but the blacks who weren’t angry!
But, if I were married to anyone as aloof and narcissistic as Obama, I’d be angry, too. He has no warmth whatsoever.
Look at their “holiday” card last year (or ‘08). I think it was done by Annie Liebowitz. It’s a family pose where Michelle has a hand on one (or both) girl(s), they have a hand on his shoulder, and he’s sitting in a chair with his hands folded on his lap. (a pose similar to all those of him during the Pledge). No real warmth, even for his own family.
The WH has worked on making him appear warmer, but it just doesn’t shine through.
Actually, on his book on the CIA, Ronald Kessler did confirm the fact the Woodward had talked to Casey before he died. In fact, it was Casey who was asking for the interview.

The all-powerful nasty right wing couldn't touch Woodward when he played his favorite game years ago.
This is a whole different ball Game. The Socialist 60s radicals play by different rules.
Woodward better watch his back. And look into lots of insurance if he is determined to follow this story...
That's generally to be expected when a person really has a lot to feel inferior about...
Well....I think they both have had some plastic surgery!
I think you meant to direct this post to someone else ?

Last time you mentioned trouble with the Obama marriage. I am not going to ask you to elaborate on that specifically, but could you tell us if you like Michelle Obama? Like is not a word we use in D.C. very much. Do I respect the First Lady? Sure. She seems like a strong woman, a good mother. I wasnt around her really enough to say anything more than that. Or, at least, I would rather not.
Were you afraid of her? No not anymore than anyone else who was around her as briefly as I was. Here is what I get from the First Lady. She is very much the Chicago ideologue. Nancy Pelosi is the far left of the Democrat Party, right? Well, Michelle Obama might be to the left of Nancy Pelosi. She really doesnt care for how things work in the country and she wants to see it all changed. I can respect that, though I would guess she is far too liberal even for me and I consider myself a liberal Democrat.
Could she be mean? Mean? Shes the First Lady. She is a strong, influential woman in America. I dont know what you are trying to ask me there though I suspect what you are trying to get at and all I will say to that is, Dont go there.
I always got the feeling she doesn’t want to be there. The First Lady is a servant role. She’d rather be served. She’s held hostage in that house with an army to protect her. The people that can get to her socially are all fake and jockeying for position.
Plus it is 2010 and the high-minded tolerant liberals still introduce her to the maid.
2. M (Robinson) Obama, spent a great deal of time in the angry Jesse Robinson Jackson home as a child....Sure she learned a lot of her entitled attitude there.
3. Money doesn't buy happiness...Although she's trying by buying. And he's trying to please her, it's just not going to happen. Expect them to be the first divorced presidential couple....Even multiple houses is not going to help this couple. There's a major conflict when they're not raised in like cultures.
” I just you home for dinner on time . “
Because I am hungry, and won’t wait for you fool..............
Megahyperfrickingdittoes!
I totally agree with this assessment. Woodward got an earful about Moochelle and he refused to print it because it was SO incendiary.
The 0bama administration immediately jumps on any and all criticisms no matter how miniscule or insignificant.
They trash anyone who dares utter any negative comment or conjecture.....
Yet...they have done little if nothing to trash Woodward and this "expose'" of 0bama.
“She wants him home for dinner on time with her and the girls.”
That IS the code.
But it was not always wedded bliss for the First Couple. A new book, Renegade, about Mr Obamas unlikely run for the presidency, recounts a tense period in 2000 when the Obamas marriage was on the brink of collapse because of his restless political hunger and the familys shattered finances.
There was little conversation and even less romance, wrote the Birmingham-born Mr Wolffe, who covered Obamas campaign for Newsweek magazine. She was angry at his selfishness and careerism; he thought she was cold and ungrateful.
At the time, Mr Obama was stuck on the lowest step of the political ladder. As a mere state senator in Illinois, he had challenged a popular incumbent in a Democratic primary by running against Bobby Rush, a former Black Panther from Chicago. Mr Obama was trounced by a dismal 2-1 margin.
His wife was new to motherhood, at home with their first daughter Malia, just two years old at the time. She hated the failed race for Congress in 2000, and their marriage was strained by the time their younger daughter, Sasha, was born. Politics seemed like a waste of time to Michelle, the book says.
Mr Obamas troubles were compounded when he discovered that he was not on the guest list for the 2000 Democratic National Convention that year, because he had annoyed party officials. With maxed out credit cards he took the cheapest flight to Los Angeles where he found himself excluded from the convention floor. That was a mere eight years ago.
