NJ Gov Chris Christie Had An Amazing Week, And He's Now Set Up Beautifully To Run For President

Much of the talk surrounding Mark Zuckerberg's $100 million donation to the Newark public school system concerned whether it was an image-building move for the Facebook CEO just as a new movie is coming out that will make him look bad.

But what should be getting more attention is the effect it's having on the image of Chris Christie, NJ's hardnosed GOP governor.

Prior to last week, you only knew Christie from his videos on YouTube, where he could be seen fighting with public school teachers about their pay. That stuff is pure red meat for budget hawks, but Christie was still open to the charge that he didn't care about public school children.

This has changed wildly now. Now he's appearing with Zuckerberg and media-fave Newark Mayor Cory Booker, going on Oprah talking about schools, and promoting the movie "Waiting For Superman" (which is about the desperate need to reform the school system).

Suddenly Chris Christie is at once a budget fighter AND a prominent advocate of school reformer. He's totally nullifying any vulnerability he might have on education by making it clear that he's anti public-school unions, and pro education reform.

This is, to put it mildly, a wildly great place for him to position himself, and he's setting himself up beautifully for a 2012 run.

Christie recently said on CNBC that he's not interested in a 2012 run, but we don't buy it.

He's establishing himself as a leader among the deficit-hawk crowd, while avoiding some of the cultural baggage of the Tea Party set...

[snip]

Christie is going to run, and should definitely be considered a favorite.

Joe obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's lying. Its obvious the Tea parties have carefully avoided social issues.

1. Zuckerberg could have started his own charter school in Newark.

2. Chris Christie is pro abortion.

3. He is also pro ground zero mosque.

2 + 3 = He can forget *my* vote. (And so can the MSM.)

I don’t think he is pro-abortion.....if he IS, he won’t stand a chance for a nomination.

He is way too fat. Palin is perky and pretty plus she has backed many Tea Party people who ended up beating rinos while Christie managed his state. She quit as governor and has time to play in the political arena and has picked many winners.

Christie is not running for POTUS.

You could give the Newark Schools a billion dollars and it wouldn’t help. They already had too much money before the Facebook fool gave them $100 million.

Christie is right to have demanded pension reform for school employees, a teacher pay freeze and caps on school superintendent salaries.

He’s made good spending cut decisions.

But throwing all this money at Newark’s schools isn’t the real answer to educating children.

Children will learn when they and their parents want to learn and not a minute before.

It can be done in a public school, a public charter school, a private religious school, a private secular school or a homeschool setting.

That’s the bottom line and this 100 million dollar boondoggle won’t change it.

I guess it was the previous week that wasn’t so hot for Chris, the week the candidate he endorsed, Mike Castle, lost to Christine O’Donnell in Delaware.

So, NJ is a debt free paradise now? Maybe he should stay there and keep working on it for a while.
