The heat wave that has gripped Southern California reached a high point Monday afternoon, with triple-digit temperatures from the coast all the way inland.
As of noon, Weather.com reported that downtown L.A. was broiling at 109 degrees; Santa Monica hit 106, West Hollywood was at 111 and Long Beach was at 107.
The National Weather Service warned of extreme heat and red-flag fire dangers Monday. A small fire broke out in Ladera Heights but was quickly put out. Another small brush fire was contained Sunday night in South Pasadena.
On the energy front, California consumers are expected to use more than 45,000 megawatts by peak afternoon hours, said Gregg Fishman, a spokesman for Cal-ISO, which coordinates power for 85% of the state's grid.
Though the expected energy consumption is high for this time of year, increased usage is not expected to cause any serious problems, Fishman said. Still, Cal-ISO is recommending residents avoid using heavy appliances in the afternoon.

No CAL = same story. Sweltering here, 102.
Didn’t you guys have a cool summer?
yes we did
ah the sunrays!
Darned near October and Summer finally decides to show up.
112 degrees now in downtown L.A.
We had no Summer at all until the last 3 days.
Yep......pretty mellow summer. It was nice! Thank goodness I’m heading to Ventura for school, it’s usually 20° cooler out there. Sometimes 30 depending on the marine layer. Hope there’s one today :)
Day we got there it was 105 degrees. Triple digit temps the whole week.
That night a 5.5 quake hit. They said it was an aftershock, but it felt like a quake to me!
First time I ever encountered the "Please help me" scam.
Guy with a gas can begging for "anything will help" to buy gas for his car so he could go pick up his kid.
Temp was 58 degrees early this am in DFW TX. Now mild beautiful 70’s.
I’m in Beverly MA where it’s prob like high 60s but I checked Colton CA (a friend lives there) on weather.com: 107. Ah,
but the “feels like” temp there is only 102. There you go.
Ooofff!...I’ll be in Palmdale tomorrow, hope it cools off a little.
I heard a comedian once comment on that phrase by saying..."hey,my *oven's* a dry heat but I don't go sticking my head into it".
It’s a real scorcher here in SF today — 81 degrees!
California needs to do more within their state to fight globalist warming.
