NEW YORK Conservative Party candidate Rick Lazio on Monday withdrew from the race for governor, a decision that helps the tea party candidate who beat Lazio in the Republican primary.
Lazio told The Associated Press that he wants to continue to influence the race and bring a workable job-creation program into a contest he says has devolved into name-calling between Republican Carl Paladino and Democrat Andrew Cuomo.

Youre the man!
Agreed. I wish him the best of luck in a lifelong career in the private sector!

Indeed! Sometimes you have to earn a paycheck! ;-)
Please contact me if youre interested in being added on or taken off the Carl Paladino for Governor ping list. This looks to be a fairly high volume ping list for a while, probably until the election.
This should sew up the election for Paladino.
That would stink. I hope that there’s enough votes there to keep the line (though likely low on the ballot) but still defeat Andrew Cuomo.
Is that a pipe dream?
“Are there any conservatives left in NY?”
What? Do you think the whole state is NYC?
Did you see the primary results? Look at this red/blue map. All the blue spots are the cities with the population density. There are plenty of us conservatives left in NY for various reasons.

I shoulda read the article first. Paladino can pick up that slot, which would be GREAT!
Unfortunately the Conservative Party in NY has been just as stupid. Under Longs leadership they had Gov. Pataki as their candidate when in the end of his political career there was nothing consevative about him.
NYS Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long needs to get 50k votes on his line in order to HAVE a line on the ballot in two years.
I don’t see any other choice for him BUT to invite Paladino to take the line, no way he achieves 50k without him.
Yes, Rick Lazio does have a lot of class and displayed it during the Senate race. I’m so sick of all the detractors. If the race were between Lazio and Cuomo would they support Cuomo?
Wasn't there a poll last week that showed DioGuardi within a point of Gillibrand?
Amen, FRiend!
Glad to see you back! I just sent you a brief e-mail... ;-)
If they nominate Paladino, I will most likely vote for him on the Conservative line for that line’s survival.
With Rick Lazio pulling out of the race for governor, State Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long tells our Glenn Blain he expects his party to throw its support behind Tea Party favorite Carl Paladino at its organization meeting Wednesday in Albany.
Conservative Party's Mike Long: We'll Unite Behind Carl Paladino
That’s interesting.
I wonder what was up earlier that they wouldn’t endorse him?
I also wonder if that’ll get them enough votes to remain as a party line on the ballot after the election.
Thanks for the link!
The trouble is that the RATS outnumber the good guys by 2-1 and it is all the city dwellers. Downstate (south of Westchester county) Albany, Utica, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo. They simply outnumber suburbia and rural Republicans. And it is exactly why the state is a mess.

There's conservatives everywhere, friend! Look, even in deep blue states that Obama and Kerry took 65-35, that means that out of every random 100 people 35 would at least lean towards conservative. We're out there.
I think Nassau and Suffolk might come out decently for Paladino.
