Senate Candidates Rubio, Buck Say GOP Needs to be Held Accountable for Spending and Balanced Budget Promises.
Marco Rubio, the Florida Republican Senate nominee aligned with the Tea Party movement, went on the offensive against the GOP on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday, saying that both the Republican and the Democratic parties are to blame for the country's problems.
Rubio said that politics today is "full of people that think they can say or do anything, because once they get elected they think they'll raise so much money they can make you forget."
Rubio took on Florida's popular incumbent Governor Charlie Crist in the primary for the Republican Senate nomination and won. (Crist left the party before the primary and is now running as an independent.)
The candidate, who has become one of the poster boys of the Tea Party movement, said that Republicans need to be held accountable.
"Remember, the Republicans had a majority in Washington for the better part of 10 to 12 years. They didn't fulfill some of the promises they had made in '94 when they were elected - things like a balance budget amendment, things like banning earmarks, things like term limits," Rubio said.
"If you say you're going to do that and you get elected, then do it."

Somewhat true. But one has to separate the RINOs from the conservatives.
True enough.
In essence, the Tea Party is giving them a new chance they probably don't deserve. We are getting rid of a lot of them and those we don't better behave, or there will be hell to pay in 2012.
Rubio said that politics today is “full of people that think they can say or do anything, because once they get elected they think they’ll raise so much money they can make you forget.”
Truth.
And it’s the Rove’s of the world who sell them on this idea. A Republican politician thinks as long as he can refer to himself as conservative, he can get reelected.
No more. We are paying attention now.
Exactly. The GOP leaders are spineless cowards while the Rats’ are scumbag liars. If it wasn;t for the Tea Party, the GOP will be business as usual: cowering to the Dems like Obama to a saudi king.
‘But one has to separate the RINOs from the conservatives.’
One is either a Republican or not. ‘Conservative’ is not a party.
Go Marco!
I took a lot of heat starting in April of ‘09 for tagging this guy over the establishment. This is exactly what his tone and message was the first time I heard him speak at Lake City the first weekend of June that year. What was most pleasing was his ability to deliver a cohernet message with just a few index cards.
I am now prepared to support his older brother for my city councilman in Jacksonville.
CBS doesn’t care. The media has to find a way to split the conservative base with 5 weeks to go. There are some freepers who are willing to help.
True. Tom Delay and company convinced the Republican party that they needed lobbyist cash to win and they needed to deny it to the Democrats to get them to lose. The Republicans sold out to K street.
Now it’s time for Main Street.
Agree, but the RINOS outnumber the Conservatives in the GOP so much so that it is hard to untangle this statement.
We the people are tired of empty promises from a party that is supposed to stand for US.
I see the MSM has finally gotten past kneejerk mode where tea parties are concerned & has found a message they can get behind.
I have no complaints about this approach.
And if the Tea Party people get into office, become corrupted, and start acting like they know better than the rest of us -- well, then extreme measures will be required for the politicians of both political parties.
ALL Dims are to bleame
SOME Republicans

I’m sure they will need to be turned out in 2012. One election won’t be enough. These old men are set in their ways and they’ll be damned if they are going let anyone tell them how to behave. Okay fine, off to retirement for them. The danger in the next two years is that they will be building their nest eggs with political favors.
Indeed. W and the Republican party spent money like drunken sailors. Had to prove to the world that we were “compassionate”, don’t ya’ know.
Agreed, If the TP is successful in November, then it will be imperative that the GOP be cleansed of the RINO leaders and the fundamental creed of conservatism be LAW!
“One election wont be enough.”
Yes, it is only the beginning! Times are a-changin...
