As Conservatives we each have a very low tollerance for government spending on things it should not be involved in.  I do believe there are times when we should be more forgiving of it.  This is one of a very few instances that I would sign on to.

Look, we don't want the government soaking the public, but do we really want to sign on to ending the lives of every person who is on life support that isn't presently responding?  Some of them recover, and this is not what is breaking the bank anyway.  Lets get real here.

Nobody but nobody bats an eyelash over providing free health care to foreign nationals that shouldn't be here.  Twenty to thirty-five million of them, and the only thing Lefists can say about this is, "Hey, let more of them in to sap us dry."  Try sending a few of them home and watch the commotion.  Tens of billions, no problem...

Get a few hundred people who have had an unfortunate accident, and all of a sudden it's, quick, pull the plug, no more veggies for you you worthless pile of flesh.

Perhaps the stories are out there and I just haven't heard of them, but I don't hear stories of people waking up saying, "Damit, I told you to kill me!  Why didn't you listen?"

Instead we see family reunions, lots of tears, and enough happiness to fill a football stadium.  The additional $1.25 in taxes it costs my family each year isn't going to break our budget.

Another point is that if rules were relaxed so that volunteers could help care for the needy in hospitals - trained of course - to take care of more mundane tasks, this would reduce costs. There is so much freaking legal redtape about everything that it makes costs skyrocket. I bet all kind of volunteers woulds be thrilled to help care for the sick and helpless. I bet groups would even form just for the purpose.
