Something that was particularly creepy, looking at the video, is that you can see that a lot of them were probably British converts. Those red beards and blue eyes sort of gave them away. Very, very scary indeed.

I'm reminded in listening to a podcast series on 12 Byzantine emperors, the islamists 1000 years ago took special pleasure in killing all of their enemy except the youngest children. Those children they took back, indoctrinated, and then sent them into battle against their own former people. 1000 years later, and nothing has changed.

It seems to be a perpetuating meme among the Left that people are basically good and that things and movements make people Evil. Tea Parties turn grandma into a homicidal racist sociopath, firearms cause otherwise peaceful people to murder, SUVs cause people to want to trash the planet, poverty makes people want to rape and rob banks and liquor stores. Scriptures state that man is totally depraved and loves his sin and wants other to join in. In the first chapter of Romans, Paul teaches that sin is a gateway to greater sin until the sinner is like Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi - indistinguishable from demons.
True Christianity, as defined by the Reformers, is transformational and since the West was once saturated with Christianity's influence evil was held in check, in the same way that a little salt goes a long way in preserving meat from rapidly spoiling, or a little yeast, or a little MSG...
Islam appeals to the carnal and wicked nature of man. One man who kills his neighbor must wrestle to some degree with his conscience which tells him that it is wrong. Under Islam, that same man can kill without the conflict because his religion assuages the guilty conscience, even rationalizing and encouraging the sin to further not his own self-interests, but in praise and worship to his god.
The mythical "moderate" Muslim is one whose conscience still wins the battle against the permissiveness of the religion. He knows that his religion requires him to kill the infidel, but his conscience gets in the way. The so-called "radical" Muslim is one who has made his religion greater than his conscience and thus is uninhibited to do what all men without conscience would want to do. The "moderate" Muslim, not yet wanting to pick up the sword can vicariously celebrate the killing which his religion tells him is just. This is why we saw mass celebrations on 9/12 since the internal conflict is set-aside because one rationalizes that he himself is not guilty of murder.
This is the fundamental reason why the Left embraces Islam. Their hatred of their neighbor is greater than their rhetoric about equal rights, pro-sodomy and the poor. As long as someone else is doing the killing, they can vicariously celebrate each and every death since they wash their hands of actually committing the murder.
What we need to be concerned about is when the social stigma that is a product of the "salt" of Christianity is diluted and wanes in its effectiveness, then the masks will come off and the boxcars will be filled with passengers on the one-way trip to the "camp".
History repeats itself because its basically Ground Hog Day for the Devil. Each "day" he learns and improves his strategy until one night he "gets the girl"
