Mayor Bloomberg plunged into the governor's race today by endorsing Democrat Andrew Cuomo.
The announcement came just hours after a Quinnipiac University Poll came out this morning showing Cuomo with just a six-point lead over GOP hopeful Carl Paladino.
[Cuomo] has time and again made performance and integrity his top priorities in government, and in Andrew I know Ill have a partner in Albany who will take on the special interests who have time and again stifled needed reform, the mayor said in a statement.
"We need a governor who knows that the partisan politics of the past cannot be the way of the future."

Mayor Mosque, elitest nanny stater steps forward to recommend his gubernatorial soul mate. The quotes are hilarious.
There are some good comments below the article.
Ping.
This should help Paladino’s ratings right? I mean, Bloomberg called us all racists and degenerate.
If youre interested in being on a Carl Paladino for governor ping list, please ping metmom to let me know.
Maybe the Cuomo’s made Bloomberg an offer he couldn’t refuse. Capish?
Do you wanna horse head?
I would think so. Bloomberg has become infamous on a national level due to his position on the Ground Zero Mosque, and salt, and guns, and.... It should be a big red flag to those who don’t know too much about Cuomo.
Rudy endorsed his daddy against Pataki... so I would say Bloomberg is staying true to New York “Republican” form.
Very cool, metmom!
Why doesn’t he just come clean and switch to the DeomcRAT party?
...and in Andrew I know Ill have a partner in Albany....
It’s all the same party, anyway. :-)
(blush) Should have been DemocRAT party--hard to type with a cat trying to walk across the keyboard!
Fox News radio reported this like it was a surprise. Ha ha. I would have been more stunned if he endorsed the Republican. In any case the endorsement of the NYC mayor did not help Cuomo Sr. get reelected in 1994 so maybe history will repeat itself.
Andrew is still playing coy about whether or not he’ll debate Paladino.
In a sound clip I heard Bloomie say that “anger is not a governing strategy....”
And everyone’s waiting to see if Rick Lazio will drop off the Conservative line and support Paladino.
Won’t the republicans boot him from the party for this? If not, why not? If this guy has any republican values, then I’m an aborigine space shuttle pilot.
Good point. If anything, this should help Paladino establish his outsider credentials to upstate NYers. People down here in the city will vote for the Dem candidate anyway, so I don’t see how this really adds many votes for Cuomo.
The first announcement I heard today was that there would be a “major announcement from the Cuomo Campaign.” I got all excited because I thought Andrew was going to announce a debate with Paladino. When I found out about Bloomberg I was so disappointed. Some big announcement! Poop.
Unfortunately for Andy, he said he did vote for Bloomberg, when in actuality he supported his opponent.
