Paladino Trails Cuomo By 6 Points In NY Gov Race
Quinnipiac Poll ^ | 9/22/10 | staff

Posted on 09/22/2010 3:51:16 AM PDT by drpix

Republican Carl Paladino, aided by a 4 -1 margin among Tea Partiers, trails New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for Governor, 49 - 43 percent among likely voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Only 18 percent of New York State likely voters consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement, but they back Paladino 77 - 18 percent.

Cuomo leads 87 - 8 percent among Democrats while Paladino leads 83 - 13 percent among Republicans and 49 - 43 percent among independent voters, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University survey, conducted by live interviewers, finds. This first likely voter general election survey in New York in this election cycle can not be compared with earlier surveys of registered voters.

Women back Cuomo 54 - 34 percent, while men go 49 percent for Paladino and 46 percent for Cuomo.

Seven percent of voters remain undecided and 21 percent of those who name a candidate say they might still change their mind.

Just 4-1 among Tea Partyers would mean that 20 percent of Tea Partyers are not Tea Partyers, which I don’t buy.

Wouldn’t a Tea Party type be embarrassed to state support for Cuomo? 20% of them seems like a high number.

Is it just me or does it sound like New Yorkers may be waking up, the fact that Bloomberg barely won re-election and Gilibrand is under 50% and now this seems they have decided ENOUGH!

Six points is easily within striking distance, even if the polls don’t move, because of the enthusiasm gap in a “Wave Election”.

Paladino’s people are going to crawl over broken glass to get to the polls. But do you know anybody who is really enthusiastic and charged up about Andrew Cuomo? People are resigned to Cuomo winning, because they figure it is his turn, and they don’t have any better Democrat alternative. But that is not going to be enough to get them out to the polls.

I think Palidino's opponent in the GOP primary is hanging on after his loss & running on another ticket.

The RINO GOP only want party unity when they win!

I forgot about Lazio’s sour grapes. That would explain it.

Lazio barely got anything in the primary, he’ll be lucky to score 1% in the GE but he needs to drop out now and back Paladino, its not like it was close in the primary, he got trounced.

"Revenge of the Up-Staters, coming to a drive in near you!"

Seriously, I have a bud and his wife near Rochester, 2 of the 3 kids are out of State-ers because the economy sucks on ice and their ain't nothin' their.

Maybe, just maybe downstate is realizing pulling the "D" lever on autopilot that pile of Poo in their front yard was left by the Donkey...

The Upstaters for years have been more conservative and their votes have been esentially overwritten by the Island.

Maybe not this time....

I am a little stunned it is this close at this point, but it’s good news.

“Women back Cuomo 54 - 34 percent”

there they go again!

I wonder what % of those wommen are a) single moms and/or b) minorities.

Bloomberg threw his support to Cuomo yesterday which is a plus for Palladino in my opinion.

but he needs to drop out now and back Paladino,

Specter, Crist, Murkowski, Lazio, Scozzasomething. It feels good getting these people out of the closet and out of the party.

In fairness to Castle he at least hasn't threatened to go third party or endorse the Dem.
