A 60-year-old Vista man who allegedly attempted to shoot his brother accidentally shot himself instead, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

During an apparent alcohol-fueled argument, Terry Brill pointed a double-barreled, .38 caliber, derringer-type pistol at his brother, 59-year-old Michael Brill, and pulled the trigger, said Sgt. Rob Smith. The gun, pointed at the man's face, failed to discharge.

When Terry Brill tried to figure out why the gun misfired, he shot himself in his left hand, Smith said.

Deputies who examined the two-shot pistol found that one round had been fired and one unexpended round, Smith said. Both of the rounds showed signs of firing pin strikes, the sergeant said.

You have two shots I'm standing in front of you with a k-bar knife, your first shot misses me the other one misfires and I cut your drunk ass throat.

I don’t drink. You got my point, though. A tiny gun is better than nothing.

How is such a situation different than a jamming 9 millimeter?

9MM is a crap round(not really). I’d rather have my trusty sword cane. Or maybe a shillelagh with a rusty nail.

I always thought that a derringer was a type of pistol, not a brand name. Who knew?

I do not know I’ve never had my 9mm jam.

I don’t know the statistics for misfires, but the gun is for close-in shooting—1-2 feet or less.

I picked up the .22lr and the .38 special/.357 mag barrels to go along with the .419 bore/.45. They're a hoot to shoot!

"I do not know I’ve never had my 9mm jam"

Therefore derringers are crap? I don't think you know very much about firearms.

9MM is a crap round(not really).

S&W M&P 45 ACP.

I don't want to be in a situation where I must shoot someone.

Should someone place me in a situation where I must shoot them, I only want to shoot them once.

No it means that I answered your question of never having a 9mm jam. From the story it self it says that the derringer misfired and did not hit the intended subject. Maybe I should of said that his derringer was crap does that make you feel better?

"Maybe I should of said that his derringer was crap does that make you feel better?"

Then why didn't you?

Does backing off your stupid statement that "darengers [sic] are crap" make you feel better?

An aside: It's should have, not should of.

Well, yes Vista *does* make you want to shoot yourself

Must be past my bedtime because that's how I read the headline... Vista is terrible but shooting his brother over it seemed a bit extreme. LOL
