The Inter-Press Sevice (IPS) is reporting that the head administrator of the Mexican Superintendency of Tax Administration, Raul Diaz, has confirmed that his government is building a wall in the state of Chiapas, along the Mexican/Guatemalan border.
The official reason is to stop contraband from coming into Mexico, but as Diaz admitted: It could also prevent the free passage of illegal immigrants.
According to Mexico's National Commission on Human Rights, 500,000 people from Central America cross into Mexico illegally every year.
Just as Mexican authorities have opposed the construction of a fence by the U.S., along our border with their country, Mexico is now receiving a great deal of criticism from the Guatemalan government.

Doing the job Americans refuse to do!
things can’t be THAT bad in Guatemala
I bet Mexico ignores the fact that they frequently kill anyone sneaking into their country
Wonder if Calderon will invite the head of Guatemala to go before whatever they call the mexican legislature and insult the Mexicans
I am thinking not
my keyboard does not have an ‘ignore’ key.
And, we loaned them the money to build the wall and buy trucks, helicopters, cameras, C2I systems, night gear.
I have been unable to find the reference but there was a news article when W was president that we were loaning Mexico $$$ and arranging for them to purchase copters and the other gear.
I yelped at the time because at the same time Fox and Bush were in agreement that a US-Mexico fence would be ineffective.
*It could also prevent the free passage of illegal immigrants. *
Cool!
Maybe they could put a wall up along their Northern border to show they are our amigos!
Mexico is nothing but a bunch a racist Hispanic Ku Klux Klan Drugocracy.
They whine when the US is tough on Mexican Illegal Aliens....but its OK for them to build a wall on the Guatemala border.
Secure the Border, Deport all Illegal Aliens, and Abrogate NAFTA. Stop pandering to Mexico
You linked back to the FR posting.
That’s racist! /sarc
It is more complicated then this, you do have a minority in Mexico who understand that their country has a double standard.
The problem is that for most Mexicans streaming in America, who shouldn’t even be going there in the first place,it is pretty much a non-issue.
To them,it is just a matter of keeping their house clean and moving on to a nicer place. It is either because it is “their land” or because they’re special enough to move to the States.
Not that different from other immigrants who moved to America and wanted to keep ethnic groups they didn’t like out and keep their own homelands pure.
The problem is that as in the past.It becomes a push to either replace or integrate Anglo populations within an expanding Mexican sphere.
In real life what you get is a Mexico that is literally imploding from the inside out as options to deal with the chaos becomes increasingly limited. While plenty of people in the States are increasingly getting disturbed at a bunch of people who seem more then happy to walk all over them.
Again there are plenty of Mexicans who aren’t particularly proud of illegal immigration or the way their own country treats foreigners.Yet given Mexico’s own history with immigration, some of which lead to the Mexican war,it is understandable that these people are pushed aside.
As for Guatemala,it and Haiti are probably the poorest countries in the hemisphere. It is pretty much the same as Mexico if not quite as dangerous because crime isn’t quite as well organized.
I would take Guatemala over Mexico any day!
I would think just being Mexican in Mexico is insult enough. I’m still mad as Hell at that little p!ssant Calderon coming here and insulting us. And Democrats cheering him!
This is priceless”I would think just being Mexican in Mexico is insult enough.and undeniably true
Well said
Thank you.
Didn’t you know that The United States, Mexico. and Canada are just one large Country. The wall is between us and Guatemala. ;0)
And the US media — see nothing, hear nothing, know nothing, report nothing about this.
