Even the Spaniards weren’t here in any number. Just a few small isolated settlements like Santa Fe and Los Angeles. The Commanche and Apache ruled north of the Rio Grande and they were a formidable barrier to any Mexican and Spanish presence. It took the US Second Cavalry years to subdue the Apache and Commanche. Mexicans were no match for them.
Obama is a semi-Kenyan. What does he know about Mexican history. Fact is the Pope “gave” the Spanish those territories. But the Spanish were holed up in far away Mexico City and had zero jurisdiction over Arizona, Texas etc. They had a claim alright but no power to enforce it. The wild Apaches and Comanches had the run of those South West states despite Mexico City’s grandiose claims. Those Indian tribes did what they wanted until the US Army defeated them post Civil War

All the Spanish rulers in Mexico City had was a territorial claim granted by the Pope. This is all they had....an empty piece of Papal paper that they had no significant military to make good on. To make those territories (Texas etc) truly theirs. We took them in war then made them ours by subduing the native Indians. That was it. Thing is, if you are going to learn islam - in a madrassa or elsewhere - they also steep you in arabic, regardless of your actual language. And madrassas, even the ones in US islamic centers, like to get their students early. From around two and up. So the language training is being done to kids. Little seems to be known about these brain-half-disturbances being permanent or not, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Presto, a possible explanation of the muslim timeline-insanity.
And it is *only* arabic doing this. The other languages you mentioned (the closest being Hebrew) does not have enough irregularities to trigger the effect.
I’ve hiked all over the Four Corners area and you are quite correct about the amazing number of remains in the area. They are literally everywhere, including some areas where it is hard to see how anybody ever made a living there, especially over in the Canyonlands area.
They estimate the area was a good deal more heavily populated then than now. Though, to be fair, that isn’t saying a great deal.
The spectacular cliff dwellings were a late development and weren’t inhabited all that long. They developed, IMO, because of the ongoing disintegration of Anasazi society, with resultant warfare, cannibalism, possible human sacrifice, etc.
About 20 years ago I took the official Mesa Verde NP tour and was highly amused by the official line about why they moved into the cliff dwellings after living for many centuries in far more conveniently accessed mesa-top pueblos. The line was that this had nothing whatsoever to do with their need for a defensible position, as the Anasazi were totally peaceful. Anybody but an idiot that looks at these ruins can see they were chosen for their defensive value.
This compulsion to view past societies as peaceful, when they clearly were not, tells us a great deal more about those who make such statement than it does about the past societies. They used to say about the same things about the Maya, until someone unfortunately translated their writings, which showed they glorified violence, torture, etc. Much like the Assyrians, in fact.
Your comment about the local tribes always avoiding the ruins has not been my experience. The Ute Mountain Ute tribe has the non-Park part of Mesa Verde on its reservation. They run a profitable tour business to many of the ruins on their land. The Navajos run some similar tours.

If you read up on the history of the Chiracahua Apache's (Gerinimo's clan), you realize Gerinomo hated the Mexicans even more than the Anglos, they killed off his first wife and kids. The Apaches spent 200 years fending off the Spanish and then the Mexicans.
Yup, there was a reason they didn't come north of the border. When California became a State, there were but 2,000 Spanish speaking people here, who almost unanimously considered themselves Spanish, not wanting anything to do with what they perceived a bunch of traitorous hooligans to the South. They fought Mexican authority along with Americans, settled their accounts and property claims in courts, and we all went on from there. There were a few instances in which some got screwed, but not many.
These Central American mestizos and Indians we're seeing now have no more historic claim to America than the Chinese. Mexico possessed a claim they abrogated for 27 years. My family has been here for over a century and helped build California into what they want to take. I want them out.
My husband said the first time he went to a family reunion it was like going to a Nazi Youth Camp — all the blue-eyed people and kids. I laughed so hard and thought about it for a minute. Yup, we ALWAYS do — all the guppy-mouthed blue-eyed babies (think Brad Pitt's natural children — we all look like them). Mom used to say it was easy to watch us when we were little — kiss us and stick us to the wall — we'd stay. ;-) Husband has brown eyes, but son's are blue as the sky.
You are correct and I should have been more clear. The "traditional" Navajo will not go into what they call ghost places. I had a long discussion with a Christian Navajo who had always wanted to go into the canyons, but her husband was traditional and would not go. The Navajo do run the tours in Canyon de Chelly and I think Chaco Canyon, too. We took the Jeep tour into de Chelly. There are Navajo living inside the canyon, but we were told they do not go inside the dwellings. I don't know if that is for superstitious reasons, out of respect for the dead, or for preservation reasons - as I said, some of them get real evasive when you ask certain questions. But the Christian Navajo told me that a visit to a ghost place for a traditional Navajo would require a 5-day cleansing ritual afterwards that would cost 10 sheep! (She could have been pulling my leg, too... there's always that!)
