At least eight city of Bell officials were arrested this morning as L.A. County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley prepared to announce criminal charges in the municipal salary scandal.

Yeah, that’s all been revealed..But for those not aware...Thanks.
Don’t forget about Rizzo’s tax paid horse ranch....
“Er....from the nearest light poles.”
From the picture above, they’ll need sturdy post for Rizzo.
Yes, those utility bills are a source of contention with me.
It amazes me how some government official can decide that I am the guy that should be paying for other people’s equipment.
It’s the same thing when I see these scooters for people who supposedly can’t get around anymore. “Here, you can have one for free...” Yep, you and I get to pay for those too.
Every time I see someone on those I wonder why there isn’t a big two foot by two foot sign on them saying, “Thanks everyone. I really deserved this.”
Typically City Council appoints Planning Commission, who together approve zoning changes, specific projects, as well as arranging VERY complex Redevelopment projects.
Redevelopment can be a financial windfall for the “developer.” They tend to stretch out to several years.
A council member and/or planning commissioner could serve out their term, next to join up with a law firm, developer, or lobbying entity for pay.
This in turn can lead to decades long careers, thanks to the influence and money they controlled while in government service.
Get enough legal entities involved, it obscures it. Few people watch local government, or understand the deals.
In Huntington Beach, the Trash contract is a multi-year monopoly with Rainbow Disposal.
One senior officer of Rainbow is a former Mayor, Ron Shenkman. Chairman of Board.
Rainbow makes many charitable donations, and may very well be the epitome of honesty, but the relationship is typical of such matters.
At the Mayors home, they had to use a battering ram so they could drag that corrupt POS outside...
This is just too good...
Anyone in the southwest, ya ought to tune into KFI LA John and Ken at 2 pm....It will be a good show.
Ouch! Now that’s brutal. LOL Hardball to the bitter end huh.
The Italians had the right idea.
“Got KFI on and they are talking about the specifics of the bail...before they can be released on bail...they must prove that the money is not from their criminal activities....means Rizza and others can be in Jail for some time.”
So sweet. He looks so corpulent that he may not live a long healthy life.
He has “stuffed” himself at the public banquet.
Rizzo faces 53 counts
Yes, usually it is just covetousness. An old-fashioned sounding word that is a huge problem today.
As long as it is honestly obtained, I am delighted that there are some places where people can still honestly get rich.
Most countries, if you are rich, you did evil to get there.
Yes, I understand the idea “greed is good,” although I don’t quote it.
A desire for advancement, and interest in profit, good stewardship, wise investment, hard work, blessing, good ideas, discipline, strategy, dominion. . .
all tend to bring about wealth.
Greed in and of itself does not. It would tend to bring about corruption, abuse, waste, etc.
But there is nothing greedy about trying to make as much money as you can! Make it; earn it; not steal it or connive it.
Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley filed charges against eight current and former Bell officials Tuesday, alleging that they misappropriated $5.5 million in public funds. Robert Rizzo, Bell's former city manager, has been charged with 53 counts of misappropriation of public funds and conflict of interest.
Former Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo, whose high salary sparked the outrage that led to the investigations of the city, is arrested by police at his Huntington Beach home Tuesday.
“Most countries, if you are rich, you did evil to get there.”
Or your ancestors did evil, so it behooves the authorities to confiscate such ill gotten wealth, for the good government to manage.
In 1917 following the “Russian Revolution” all property was confiscated for the good government to own.

I agree.
Bell residents Jaime Luna, left, and Susanna Villela, center, celebrate in front of City Hall.
Good for them!
I agree. Perhaps greed is the wrong word. The desire to improve your current status is probably a more reasoned way to address it. Greed does have excessive and negative connotations to it. Still, if you look at who is supposed to be greedy today (using the Left’s definition), it sure does reduce the more negative aspects of the word for me.
“The desire to improve your current status is probably a more reasoned way to address it. “
And, the desire to provide for your own. Totally ignored by most when they talk economics these days.
Men who earn a lot can take care of a lot of people.
When people pile on the U. S., they forget that the U. S. sends more privately donated funds to foreign lands than any other nation’s people on earth. We even give food to U.N.E.S.C.O. that we never get credit for.
Someone showed me that some of it is stamped with the U. S. on it, but I think a lot of it is just stamped with the U. N.’s markings so it can take credit.
Poor people don’t employ others. Well to do people do.
Trashing ‘the wealthy’ is like saying, “I never want a job again.” You eliminate the wealthy and government comes to a grinding halt also. If people aren’t working, who pays taxes.
