Fox News Poll: Coons Leads O'Donnell By 15 Points In Delaware
TPM ^ | 9/21/10 | Eric Kleefeld

Posted on 09/21/2010 7:57:10 AM PDT by LdSentinal

The new Fox News poll of the Delaware Senate race shows Democratic nominee Chris Coons continuing to enjoy a double-digit lead against Republican Christine O'Donnell.

The numbers: Coons 54%, O'Donnell 39%. The survey of likely voters has a ±3% margin of error. There is no previous Fox News poll of this race. However, this poll was conducted through a Rasmussen offshoot, Pulse Opinion Research, which performs made-to-order robopolls. The previous Rasmussen poll from last week, taken right after O'Donnell's upset win in the primary over moderate Congressman Mike Castle, gave Coons a lead of 53%-42%.

This poll also confirms the conventional wisdom that Republican voters threw away a certain pickup of this seat. The poll asks voters to suppose that Castle had been the GOP nominee -- and in that match-up he leads Coons by a whopping 48%-33%. In addition, only 33% of respondents said that O'Donnell is qualified to be a Senator, to 60% who say she is not qualified. This compares to a 59%-27% margin for Coons, the county executive of Delaware's largest county, which contains a majority of the state's population.

The TPM Poll Average gives Coons a lead of 53.7%-39.3% against O'Donnell. And just for comparison, the average for a Castle-Coons race gives Castle a lead of 46.4%-35.4% over the Democrat.

This is erroneous, since she was in high school, not college.

Who cares which anti-Constitutionalist wins the seat. It’s not a “pick up” unless a pro-Constitutionalist wins.

We must also remember that those people have never had a conservative option in an election; they've had their choice of liberal Dem or liberal Republican, and DE has a large percentage of independents.

Excellent reminder! Although I often point out things similar I obviously forget that at times myself. Most of the Northeast is that way. We complain about Snowe and Collins of Maine but that is home country for the old Republican Party when it was liberal.

Castle didn’t win. That simple. The shoe-in wasn’t. The party wanted a sure thing with a RINO. But RINOs aren’t a sure thing politically and are a sure loss for conservatives. The RINOs are not a sure thing in the primaries and not in the general. If they were then Rockefeller and McCain would have been president.

The party doesn’t recruit conservatives to run in the NE and they better start . . . and will if conservatives take over the party. Reagan won almost all of the NE states.

Mature voice overlay.
Pictures of COD meeting people and their excitement at he candidacy.

“Vote for Chris O’Donnell for United State Senator. Help her wield her “Broom of Doom” as she sweeps out the “Tax and Spend Coven” in the Senate. Do it for your future and for your children’s future.

Cut to shot of COD at podium speaking to large crowd. She raises a home made broom in one hand, horizontally and says into the microphone:

“From my cold, dead hands!”

Cut to crowd cheering and slapping each other on the back.

“Vote for Chris O’Donnell help get rid of the Tax and Spend Coven.”

I sympathize with your views, but to me this is still like saying we must not retreat anywhere - even for tactical purposes. If Castle had looked poised to lose, then sure, nominate the real conservative. But here we had a Senate seat that was a virtually a lockup for our side. A candidate that drifts far into RINO territory, but we would have won. Sometimes tactical retreats are necessary in a war - and make no mistake, this is a war. We would be giggling and laughing our asses off had the Dems nominated a Barbara Boxer type candidate with all sorts of skeletons for a Senate seat in Georgia or Mississippi. We have basically done the equivalent.

I’m not interested in GOP power just for the sake of power. If the GOP won’t do anything conservative with it, who cares?

Amen. In fact, having a majority that is dependent on "moderate" Republicans only increases their power and, in turn, the power of special interest. That breeds more of the same and pretty soon we are back where we started with career politicians moving steadily to the Left in pursuit of the illusive mushy middle.

I sympathize with your view as well. It is very tempting to think that electing liberals with an (R) affiliation is the right path. We have lost our country because of that type of reasoning. Government never is made smaller. It always grows. Our freedoms are never made more secure; they are always chipped away. There is always a Snowe or Specter or a Castle to stop real change. The voters were not wrong in Delaware. It was the party that was wrong in not putting forth a solid conservative in a tidal wave year. It was the party that miscalculated by offering a RINO that thought he was a sure thing. Not the voters.

If we take the senate but lose Delaware.I think it will be a good thing. The bearded marxist will be a stark reminder why we should stay republican. If we have a reminder like Coons the pubbies should be good for 20 years.

My analogy is “A Bridge too Far.” If you don’t have one, you probably aren’t aggressive enough. We won that war.

no, she doesn't need to address any silly and stupid stuff she did while in HS...

of asked, she should make a silly comeback which she is already doing...

but focus on what she'll do in the Senate...hold the line of the budget, support defense, etc....then compare that to the "raise taxes 24/7" of Coons....

come on Christine ....YOU GO GIRL!

"Ratio is pretty hard to overcome, like a 3:2 ratio of Dems to GOP."

and what is it in Massachusetts?

It’s not difficult for me to see O’Donnell as a lightweight. I don’t have a sense of who she is. I hope she can put the witchcraft thing to rest, which she can do if she just explains what she did and doesn’t make excuses or argue its insignificance (assuming she didn’t do anything freaky). Debates with Coons will make or break her.

She keeps trying to get elected. There must be some sort of fire inside her.

Witchery is not a laughing matter to many evangelicals and pentacostals. She would not be welcomed in many churches.

From a Campus Crusade for Christ listserve:
“dabbling, idle curiosity is not the same as having a picknic on a Satanic altar with blood. Where did the blood come from? Pagans tell that this is a code phrase or euphemism for having sex in a Satanic ritual.”

“Satanic worship is dangerous, because simple confession and repentance does not erase it. Satan is of deceitfulness. Unless she has had a full immersion conversion and passed tests, we cannot be sure that she is freed of Satanism.”

If the Faith Community is skeptical, it is not a good sign for the campaign.
