Delmy Aldana works two jobs — at a restaurant by day and the post office at night — to send hundreds of dollars a month to her native El Salvador.

Although the article doesn't state one way or another, Aldana may very well be a legal U.S. Citizen. It's not just the illegals that are draining America's wealth; Mexicans with all of the necessary paperwork send billions across the border. The article states:

Across the state, Aldana and other immigrants showed their enduring devotion to their loved ones last year by sending $1.8 billion home to more than 200 countries, according to the first full accounting of the cash that flows out of Massachusetts.

And therein lies the problem. Illegal or otherwise, their loyalty is not to America but to the third-world countries from whence they came. They brazenly refuse to assimilate and cling to the culture of their homeland. To them, America is nothing more than just a cash register.

Of course Massachusetts' own Ted Kennedy promised that NONE of this would happen when he championed the despicable "Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965" during the debate:

...our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same.... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset.... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, the act will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area...

Yes, I'm fed up with having to press '1' for English, hearing that repulsive Mexican music when I hit the scan button on the car radio and seeing the flag of Mexico flying over far too many businesses here in Texas. Thank you for nothing Ted Kennedy!

My grandfather came here from Sweden. He cut all ties to his country of origin and became totally American, working hard (and quite successfully) to completely lose his accent. He proudly flew the American flag at his home and at the small business he later started. And not a penny of what he made here in this country ever went back to Scandinavia.
