The Deflated Legend Of Colin Powell
IBD Editorials ^ | September 20, 2010 | Investors Business Daily staff

Posted on 09/20/2010 5:45:58 PM PDT by Kaslin

Punctured Pundit: Americans are grateful to Gen. Colin Powell for his exemplary service in uniform. But in his media-ordained role as political wise man, his knowledge and judgment leave a lot to be desired.

Powell is touted as a rare sage within the Republican Party (though it's a funny kind of Republican who endorses Barack Obama at the worst time imaginable for his GOP opponent, in October 2008). The media present him as a better angel of our nature who has chosen to belong to a hellish political organization dominated by intemperate ideologues.

When former Secretary of State Powell speaks, we are expected to shush those around us and prepare to receive his wisdom.

But on Sunday, Powell again and again proved his sage status to be little more than a myth. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," the biggest embarrassment came when the veteran of the last three Republican administrations took a shot at "his" party on immigration.

"We can't be anti-immigration," this son of Jamaican immigrants contended, "because immigrants are fueling this country. Without immigrants, America would be like Europe or Japan, with an aging population and no young people coming in to take care of it."

Come again?

I wish ØBozo would wrap his arms around him so that more of the undecided can realize what a POS Powell REALLY is!

THEY'RE ALL OVER MY HOUSE..

Audio 4:49 min and 15:50 min on Powell (Replacement guest being interviewed) was made sport of today on the Howie Carr show (Boston's WRKO) when Powell said he had illegal immigrants "running all over my house" doing work for him, he said in the interview with David Gregory..don't you as well? "I am sure you have seen them at your house"!

Howie laughed and said Colin made it sound like the statements one makes when you need Pest control! from varmints running all over my house!"

Caller Larry from Maine: How did Powell know that the immigrants were illegals

Was this Colin doing some racial profiling or linquistic profiling?

The whole show is funny when Powell goes on "smuggly" as if everyone needs illegals in their elitist set to get things done they themselves won't do. Wait: Contractors have said their unemployment rate is 40%.

More serious nature of an illegal being arrested 15 times included driving drunk.

Powell said these illegals have no status--Howie chimed in they do have a status, an Illegal status.

The questions to the "had to be embarrassed" President are also included.

Powell had an admirable military career and did a decent job as Secretary of State. When it comes to politics, he is a total idiotic buffoon.

I had always heard that he was the same opportunistic snake in the grass while in the Army as he is now....

How many White men did he help get ahead in the military?

“I had always heard that he was the same opportunistic snake in the grass while in the Army as he is now....”

His biggest asset was being an opportunist who knows how to play the PC Affirmative action game. I can remember some top Army brass saying that much better qualified candidates were passed over so that Colin could advance.. The motive for this....to prove that Repubs were not racist?
We can thank the Bush family for Colon Bowel serving in the top military positions, and again as Secretary of State.

It is stunning to me that many, even here on FR know nothing of his involvement and coverup in that case.

I have known about Powell's duplicity since it became public. That is why I believe Powell is a traitor to our Country.

Not because he did it to Bush but because he did it to our Country and the Presidency during a time of war.

Powell is nothing but political slime and was even in uniform. A political hack who climbed the ladder on politics and not on ability.

As Secretary of State in late ‘02 and ‘03 Powell was forced to argue the case to invade Iraq in the U.N. He hated having to do that dedicated himself to avenging his humiliation on Bush from that moment on, Armitage/Plame was the first such opportunity. By this time GWB had completely lost his mojo and gave us conservatives fits for the next four years as he refused to defend himself and his cabinet against all the scurrilous attacks.

Who cares what his perceived reasons were and I don’t buy it in the first place. Remember, everyone was singing the same tune on the situation in Iraq. They did find the 500+ tons of yellow cake and disposal of chemical and biological precusors was as simple as dumping them in the desert.

US Intel, British Intel, Israeli Intel, French Intel, German Intel and the list goes on. Baseline he was an oportunistic coward and the Plame scandal just iced the perception many had opined on.

GW never stood his ground politically or personally to answer the lies and misunderestimation of his character. I could give you a long list of Progressive policies he helped to foist on us and I cannot absolve him for those, especially TARP.

As the saying goes; It only takes one Aw Shoot to erase a boatload of atta boys.

My own personal reasons why I find some of Bush’s polices have less to do with the Plame standard then his treatment of 2 border agents.

Nothing like watching Republican support dissolve over a few progressive policies and then watching them find out the hard way why having a “reactionary” left is a far worse deal.

As for the Aww Shoot,it is how you handle the cleanup afterwards that is kinda of important.

NO. Norm, if he shared his real feelings, would probably say Powell is an A-Hole.

I must say that the one thing Powell did right was knowing he did not have the ability to plan or execute a real war. He thankfully left that to “Stormin’ Norman.”

If Powell had tried to command the war it would have been a goat rope of epic proportions.

From Mars Attacks:

General Casey: [talking on phone] Hello? This is General Casey. I get to meet the Martian Ambassador! Ain't that great? Oh, it's a hell of an honor.

But didn't I always tell you honey, if I just stayed in place and never spoke up, good things are bound to happen. Yeah... Ok

[makes kissing noises and ends the phone call]

Juan McCain was exactly the reach across the aisle bipartisan RINO type of Republican which Powell would have us believe he is and Powell stabbed McCain in the back.

I've got far more respect for the RINO contingent who stood by McCain-- Rudy, Romney and Huck. And that ain't saying much.

There’s a reason for everything. Who dusted off Powell and put him in front of the camera? And why?

I thought Robert Rubin was worried that stimulus money for construction would give too many jobs to white men.

Powell was vehemently OPPOSED to the Gulf War (GWI). He only “supported” it when it became obvious to him he would suffer professionally if he did not. Powell is an opportunist; a man with little talent other than he knows whose asses to kiss in order to secure advancement.
