The Deflated Legend Of Colin Powell
IBD Editorials ^ | September 20, 2010 | Investors Business Daily staff

Punctured Pundit: Americans are grateful to Gen. Colin Powell for his exemplary service in uniform. But in his media-ordained role as political wise man, his knowledge and judgment leave a lot to be desired.

Powell is touted as a rare sage within the Republican Party (though it's a funny kind of Republican who endorses Barack Obama at the worst time imaginable for his GOP opponent, in October 2008). The media present him as a better angel of our nature who has chosen to belong to a hellish political organization dominated by intemperate ideologues.

When former Secretary of State Powell speaks, we are expected to shush those around us and prepare to receive his wisdom.

But on Sunday, Powell again and again proved his sage status to be little more than a myth. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," the biggest embarrassment came when the veteran of the last three Republican administrations took a shot at "his" party on immigration.

"We can't be anti-immigration," this son of Jamaican immigrants contended, "because immigrants are fueling this country. Without immigrants, America would be like Europe or Japan, with an aging population and no young people coming in to take care of it."

Come again?

Sorry, had min respect for him in uniform (we know why he was selected, and if you really look at what he did, he didn’t).

Now that he’s come out of the closet for full-fledged dim-bulb-crat idiocy, I have no respect for him whatsoever.

Just as McCain peed away his service kudos - so did Powell.

He is a mini mind - suited perfectly to be a progressive.

If you want African Americans with brains, try Justice Thomas, Walter Williams, and many many others - none of whom are libs.

Powell is no republican, he just wore the party colors in the 80's so he could get a foothold with the Reagan administration. It worked, and GHWBush helped him along, and after the first Gulf War he was in like flint.

No reason to change a successful formula then, even if it is fraudulent. The gibberish he spews since endorsing Obama illustrates his true colors.

Plus, he doesn't sound very intelligent. Pompous yes. Intelligent no.

Powell is nothing more than a libtard, he should quietly go away, and quickly.

The executive branch version of Mike Castle. Decaffeinated coffee, nobody ever drinks it but you gotta keep it on for appearances.

Powell is having too much of his punditry constructed by illegals working at his house.

The number one reason people should have absolutely no respect for this charlatain is his complicity in the Valerie Plame scandal.

It is stunning to me that many, even here on FR know nothing of his involvement and coverup in that case. How you ask?

When Robert Novak published his article that named her, Powell was Sec. of State in the Bush Administration. His deputy, Richard Armitage came to Powell to let him know it was he that spoke to Novak of Plame.

So what did Powell do? He told Armitage not to say a word of it to anyone else, not even the soon to be appointed Special Prosecutor Fitzpatrick.

That SOB let our troops and their CIC hang in the political wind for 18 months while they were going through the worst of the insurgency in Iraq and that also led to the prosecution of Scooter Libbey just because his recount of facts did not match those of Tim Russert.

It was later discovered that even before Fitz started his investigation, he was aware of the Armitage story but continued with the investigation to justify his “government” job for as long as he could.

It’s impossible to avoid the conclusion that Powell was pure political opportunist as he courted his advancement under the Reagan and Bush (I) administrations. His military rise was stalled (no division command etc.) so he went the bureaucratic/political route passing himself off as a “Republican”.....

No evidence since that he actually has any conservative leanings never mind genuine principled convictions — he is a socialist of the Obama/Hillary variety, as he proved in Oct. 2008 when his RINO pal McCain was stabbed in the back in the final weeks of the electoral season.

A large cleansing enema for the General was the only thing I could think of while watching Powell’s colon Sunday. Otherwise he will continue to be full of s**t.

Powell had an admirable military career and did a decent job as Secretary of State. When it comes to politics, he is a total idiotic buffoon.

execellent point -— Powell’s behavior during Plamegate was unscrupulous, despicable, and extremely bad for the nation

He alone could have averted much unjustifiable and malicious torment for the public, the INNOCENT WH staff, and the troops -— to have the WH unnecessarily smeared, dragged through the mud, and “investigated” for 18 months at the height of a difficult wartime situation -— Powell should be despised for that above all

Scratch the surface of this perfumed prince and you will find a Democrat crying to get out.He was a Republican in name under the Reagan and Bush administrations because his career advancement demanded it. Left to his own devises he is a pedestrian Democrat.

I have lost a great deal of respect for Colon Bowell and he is the architect of his own downfall.

Has Powell ever gotten over his Schwarzkopf envy? His whining about all the attention paid to Norman during the GW was very unbecoming.

Rush just shredded him all program long today.

Powell went from “we’re gonna cut it off and then we’re gonna kill it” to being a limo liberal.
