Sources in the PMO submit deal to US by which Israeli spy would be freed in exchange for 3 month extension of moratorium, Army Radio reports.
Senior Israeli officials are considering a deal in which the moratorium on building in West Bank settlements would be extended for three months in exchange for the release of convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard from the United States, Army Radio reported Monday.

I think your summary of the Pollard case is fairly accurate, from what I’ve read and heard. Commutation to time served is the right way to go now, but not in exchange for negotiating concessions from Israel vis-a-vis the Palestinians.
That is a lie.
Pollard was convicted, not indicted, for passing classified information to a foreign agent. He knew how classified that information was, what the consequences might be, and he betrayed his oath and his country. He is, in my opinion as someone who was in similar position, beneath contempt.
He plead out for a life sentence. Failed to live up to the agreement and likely forfeited his chance at getting out early. He could get out in 2015, but there is a chance he stays behind bars for life...
...which is what he deserves for betraying the United States of America.
“3-5 years”, some people need to put the crack pipe down and need to Recite the Pledge of Allegiance 300 times lol.

“The Pollard case is a travesty of justice”
Pollard should remain where he is. He didn’t have to be indicted for all the things you list - I believe that he was guilty, but that putting him on trial would compromise people in the field.
Whatever you believe, you can’t seriously start with the premise that somehow Pollard is an innocent man, framed by diabolical forces. That is what you have to prove to argue legitimately that a travesty of justice occurred.
So is that it? Pollard is innocent?
(rhetorical question) So your point seems to be that Pollard is guilty, and you just think he should be released.
Unfortunately for America - the present administration is Pollards best chance at freedom. You have to ask yourself - if Pollard really didn’t do anything for Israel, why is he on their wish list again and again?
No, Israel needs their spies to know they will not be left to rot. Our job at this point is to make sure that Pollard rots as a deterrent to other spies.
You about summed up the conflicting interests right there.
The allegation is that Pollard caused the deaths of US agents in Eastern Europe. He sent the information to Israel, which then allegedly passed it on to the Soviet Union, in “payment” for the right of many important Jewish people to emigrate to Israel.
Dark tales from the last decade of the Cold War.
Lots of allegations, with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in. I believe they even included stuff done by Hanssen (I’m actually amazed they didn’t throw in a few of Hanssen’s porn movies). Weinberger and Brzezinski floating in the background presiding over the administration plot to let the Syrians exterminate the Jews, just as the current administration is plotting to have the Iranians do the job.
It’s all *known*, BV. Not certain if Reagan actually knew at the time, personally I don’t think so but in later years he was fantastically sloppy with his people. But the undercurrents in every US administration since the thirties have been very bad.
People who have access to that kind of information swear by oath or affirmation NOT to release it to unauthorized personnel.
I am not an oathbreaker, I would NOT release such information. For folks who actually have moral principles, for folks whose sworn word is good, this isn't a difficult "decision" to make
Dirtbag Rat Bastard Pollard didn't understand his job, didn't keep his sworn word, and now he's paying for it. He's paying a much lighter price than he should. He should have ended his life with a noose around his neck. Dirtbag Rat Bastards Ames and Hanssen should have enjoyed the same fate.
I am not an oathbreaker, I would NOT release such information.
I think that other fellow thought he could play some sort of juvenile "gotcha" game with me; that question was clearly an ambush.
The correct response to an ambush is to attack it; in a rhetorical ambush the best weapon is the truth.
The ambusher is now revealed as a probable unprincipled douchebag, whose sworn word is worthless.
Yeah, those RCs are nasty folks. They're probably all spies for the Vatican too.
Some folks are whores ... and calling them such is almost an insult to streetwalkers.
If Israel was the only issue, I might agree with you -— the betrayal by the State Department and the CIA of Israel is well known.
I have heard often he transfered much of the same information he passed to Israel to China.
If true, this is a game-changer, IMHO.
Puking up the anti-semitism card in this case is beneath you.
“Puking up the anti-semitism card in this case is beneath you.”
Keep in mind my first post — post no 2 of this thread is -— “let him rot.”
But I am very aware of the nature of who attacks Pollard and who is the major force behind his continued imprisonment. To deny that the CIA is openly anti-Israel and the State Department is anti-semetic is to deny facts.
Yes.
I am very aware of the nature of who attacks Pollard
What does it mean to "attack Pollard"?
the CIA is openly anti-Israel and the State Department is anti-semetic
Those are not facts, they are interpretations of facts.
"There is a faction in Israel clamoring for Rat Bastard Pollard to be released" is a fact. If I were to attempt to assign some motive to them, I'd be wandering off into the realm of interpreting facts.
I support Israel 100%, but I also believe that Pollard should rot.
