“HOWDY FOLKS!”

I remember Big Tex. Always a great time going to the State Fair of Texas.

Anything and everything deep fried “on a stick”

Enjoy.

Good Lord, they have gone crazy with the “deep fried thing”

But, it’s a good time for all.

Big Tex’s arms looks out of proportion with the rest of his body. Oh well, Texas/OU isn’t far behind.

Not me.
I have never been to this fair.
But, the folks that were raised here love it.

I love a good fair.

You are probably too young to remember it. It’s a song from the Oscar & Hammerstein Broadway musical “State Fair”. They made it into a movie in the early 60’s with Pat Boone & Ann Margaret. Much of it was filmed at the Texas State Fair which was a source of great pride and excitement for the fair organizers way back then.

I love a good fair!

I know all the booths. I know where to get a double scoop of ice cream with the apple dumpling in exchange for a smile and a compliment.

The only real football team in the Metroplex is TCU (and it will also be SMU next season).

Yes, memories, memories.

It’s been several years since I’ve been to the State Fair, but sure do remember the wooden roller coaster! Took my daughter on it when she was about 7 or 8. Had a thrilling ride. Loved to hear the creaking, groaning, and clickity-clack of the coaster and the screaming of the riders.

I think they tore it down if I remember. Too bad. The old wooden ones were the funnest.

Yes, Far North, I think they tore it down.

We’re getting to be the old guys now.

God bless you.
