Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who has bucked the establishment to support tea party candidates, said Sunday that his party is dead if it wins a majority this fall and doesnt stick to conservative principles.
Republicans held majorities in both chambers, and George W. Bush was in the White House when DeMint moved from the House to the Senate in 2005. But he said the party didnt live up to its promises.
Republicans didnt do what we said we were going to do, he said Sunday on CNNs State of the Union. We spent too much, we borrowed too much. And frankly, if we get the majority again, even if its just in the House, and we dont do what we say, I think the Republican Party is dead.
When asked about his declaration last week that electing conservative candidates is more important than winning a majority, he said the important thing is spending. Let me clarify what I mean by conservative, he said. Im just talking about common-sense people who dont think balancing a checkbook is a radical idea. Thats what were looking for now, because the people in Washington have clearly gotten out of control in both parties.
The quickest way to a majority, the quickest way to 60 votes in the Senate, is to have Republicans who stand on principle, he added. Nothing right wing; what Im talking about is where mainstream America is, and its just common sense.
He conceded that the chances of winning a majority in the Senate in 2010 may not be that great, but he deflected the criticism that his support for primary challengers against GOP incumbents was hurting the partys chances in November.
The only reason we have a chance at a majority now is a large part for the candidates Ive been supporting. ... If the Republican Party in the Senate was now symbolized by Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist, we would not have the energy behind our candidates anywhere in the country.
I think these two have a partnership of some type in mind...
He of course denies that, but just on the chance he is fibbing, who would be in line for a replacement appointment?
“She could not trap him at all.””
Just thank God she didn’t eat him.
Would not bother me a bit :O)
With a clear, crisp January blue ski overhead, President-Elect James Warren DeMint took the Presidential oath of office with roars of “USA USA USA” ringing from the Inauguration crowd. His running mate, Vice-President Sarah Louise Palin looked on with pride flanked by her husband Todd and their children.
Moments later, as the newly sworn in President turned to shake hands with ex-President Obama, it appeared that Obama refused to shake hands with DeMint. In an amazing display, Obama and his wife Michelle left their seats and moved off the stage.
Could be fun...DeMint/Palin....He’s got the ‘gravitas’ and she’s got the ‘un-common common sense’

I am embarrassed to say I don’t know, but perhaps other FReepers from his state can chime in.
My heart’s all aflutter... :o)
DeMint:Bachmann 2012. My 2cents.
I think he would be more valuable in the Senate. But of course if he is the nom Id crawl over broken glass to vote for him.
I don’t trust De Mint, he was just on BOR’s? show a couple of days ago praising his good friend Mitt.
NOT THIS TIME! No way...will not happen!
DeMint is the guy for 2012.
how about getting rid of Grahams, Snowes, Collins, Damatos, McCains and Roves, while we are at it....
I think that she along with her cohorts have seen the end of the careers and will be looking for outside jobs soon OR changing parties (which will not change things, they will be out anyway). The grand thing about all of this is watching the screaming going on inside the GOP about “Moderates are not allowed” meme...heh. Well, yes - you’re RIGHT!
Don’t forget his favorite, Mitt Romney.
Meanwhile, at the Cotillion
as God is my witness, I'll never vote conservative again!!
Totally weird!
Ah, ain’t she cute!
No doubt, DeMint is a huckster just like all the other rinos.
It's the reality of politics, unfortunately. I do think, however, we're seeing a major shift now. And it's all good.
