Dear Friends:
Last night, Senator Lisa Murkowski announced plans seek re-election as a write-in candidate in Alaska. Rather than accepting defeat and working to unite Republicans behind Joe Miller, she has decided to put her own personal interests ahead of everything else.
The establishment loves to lecture conservatives about how we need to support liberal candidates to "expand the tent" and win seats for Republicans. But when these candidates lose their primaries, many leave the party and join the opposition. When conservatives lose their primaries, however, they accept defeat and support the nominee. Murkowski's betrayal provides more proof that big-tent hypocrites don't really care about winning a majority for Republicans.
Each of the three candidates that we endorsed who lost their primaries gracefully accepted defeat and supported the nominee. Marlin Stutzman endorsed Dan Coats in Indiana, Chuck DeVore endorsed Carly Fiorina in California, and Ovide Lamontagne endorsed Kelly Ayotte in New Hampshire and even declined a recount which he could have demanded. But when Arlen Specter faced defeat in the Pennsylvania, he left the party. When Charlie Crist faced defeat in Florida, he did the same. And now Lisa Murkowski is following in their footsteps.
This is why Republicans shouldn't apologize for supporting principled conservatives in primary elections, even in states like Delaware. Conservative candidates are in it for their country while too many establishment politicians seek office to preserve their status and power.
Murkowski's move puts this seat at serious risk. Many experts believe she could split the Republican vote and hand victory to the Democrats in November. Murkowski's decision is also a major reversal from her statement following the primary that she would "return home" later this year.
Principles have never been that important to Murkowski. She supported a massive cap-and-trade energy tax that would permanently destroy millions of jobs in this country. She has waffled on whether she would support repeal of Obama's health care take over. She is one of the worst abusers of the pay-to-play earmarks system. And she doesn't support the sanctity of human life. With positions like these, it's no surprise she's leaving the party.
Joe Miller, however, offers voters the chance to have a constitutional conservative in the Senate who will fight for the principles of freedom that are the backbone of this great country.
We need to go "all out" to help Joe Miller win this race and to make sure Lisa Murkowski suffers the same fate as Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist, and the other big-tent hypocrites. We have set a goal of raising $150,000 for Joe's campaign by the end of the week. Please make a contribution and forward this email to help us reach our goal. Let's show the Washington establishment that the way to build a big tent is with strong conservative candidates.
Yours truly,
Jim DeMint United States Senator Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund
P.S. We're just weeks away from and earthquake election, which will shake the establishment to its core. You've been on the front lines of this historic battle and I cannot thank you enough for your support and dedication to the cause. Please help us keep fighting in Alaska so Joe Miller can join the growing number of principled leaders in the Senate who will honor their oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.

I received this email from Sen. DeMint today with a link to the Senate Conservative Fund to support Joe Miller in Alaska and other conservatives running for office.
Thank you Sen. DeMint for calling Murkowski and others like Charlie Crist, exactly what they are, hypocrites who refuse to respect the will of the voters.
DeMint IMO gets it and I hope his calling Murkowski out is a sign that our GOP leaders are beginning to come around.

Even if true conservatives end up losing every single contest in November, I’ll say much was gained by outing every RINO in the group. Not that it wasn’t obvious before this, mind you...

Wow, DeMint left a palm print!

"When conservatives lose their primaries, however, they accept defeat and support the nominee." Well in MOST cases that's true. J.D. Hayworth did not support McCain and while I don't like McCain at all I now feel Hayworth needs to grow up.

Thank God for patriots like Jim DeMint who has the spine and guts to tell the American the truth in a no nonsense way.
His comments about Murkowski are right on. We have to rid the GOP of RINO’s like Murkowski who, IMO, is a reprehensible disgrace.
Joe Miller will follow in DeMint’s footsteps in protecting and defending this nation from the likes of Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and Murkowski.

I’d rather have, for example, 41 Conservatives in the Senate than 51 Republicans.

Wow....I am very short of cash right now, but I will see what I can scrape up to support Joe Miller. DeMint is right, and a clear message needs to be sent. The stars are aligned...this is our one and only opportunity to do so.

Ever try to drive a herd of RINOs across a swollen river? A few are bound to be lost or left on the other side.

I’d rather see a Dem take the seat from people like Snowe/Collins/Castle etc. I know that isn’t the most popular thing to say around here but personally I’m sick of supporting those in our party who believe voting with the Dems somehow makes them Republicans.

The Tea Parties gave us a gift we didn’t anticipate. Putting pressure on the party to give us Conservative candidates, not just any ole Republican has caused many of them to out themselves as establishment elites who would rather caucus with and vote in lockstep with Dems.

If I was absolutely certain the Republicans could not take the Senate, I would seriously consider supporting McCain’s opponent.
I’ve never done anything like that. I’ve never even not shown up and voted straight R. But I can see it from here.
