British Tea Party launched by Conservative activists to challenge Coalition

A British Tea Party campaign inspired by the electoral truimphs of the American movement is launching a series of challenges to the Coalition government.

Activists are hold a rally at next month's Conservative party conference in Birmingham at which criticism of Coalition policies will be aired.

A British division, launched last year by The Freedom Association, has held events including a "Boston tea party" in Boston, Lincs.

It has joined forces with the Taxpayers' Alliance pressure group, which is being advised by Freedom Works, a large Washington-based political group that backs Tea Party candidates.

The organisers, who have already attracted thousands of disgruntled British conservatives, are being advised by the US low-tax, libertarian activists.

The groups have been emboldened by Christine O'Donnell's victory in the Delaware Republican Senate primary on Tuesday, over Mike Castle, a Congressman and former Delaware governor.

She is the latest candidate supported by the tea party – a loose coalition of anti-government conservatives – to oust an opponent backed by the party establishment.

Sarah Palin, the former vice-Presidential candidate, is the group's figurehead and was the main speaker at a protest against Barack Obama's policies last month in Washington DC attended by more than half a million people.

Raheem Kassam, one of the British tea party organisers, also held talks with US activists at the huge CPAC conference earlier this year.

Considering it is the foreign press, not a bad article.

As an aside, I worked for the McCain/Palin campaign in Tallahassee. My assigned sidekick was a bloke from London who traveled at his own expense to work for the campaign.

I’ve lost touch with him since. I’m pretty sure he would be involved in this movement.

British Tea Party

How ironic, but in a very British way.

The Ausssies are forming a T.E.A. Party too. There was a report of it here on FR.

That’s the very thing that the “politicl establishment” fears; The people taking back control.

Hey, wait a minute...

Do you mean to tell me the Redcoats want to dump tea into Boston Harbor? Oh all right, Harbour...

Okay. We'll kiss and make up. Just a family spat...and 200 or so years ago.

Now. Let's get serious. All of us. We've got Western Civilization and the world to save--and no time to spare!

We thought Hitler and the Nazis were a threat. And the Soviet Communists, who killed far more people than even the murderous Nazis did! And the plagues and religious wars of centuries past! And the religious corruption that tortured and burned heretics and dissenters--and even the inconvenient!

They were!

But the Decadence that has suffused the West is a far greater threat!

And the neo-Nazis of the Left are every bit as dangerous as Hitler's Nazis and Stalin's Communists were!

The world is in danger!

Many people cannot understand this!

Didn’t Daniel Hannan (MEP) already try this, earlier in the year?

Why was someone from London working our election? Sorry, but I love Pommies, but don’t care for foreign nationals sticking their nose in our business. Don’t like it on the left, and just plain don’t like it.

I would not have expected the “Boston Tea Party” to have favorable associations for almost anyone across the pond

I imagine the Brits must have a different view of the Tea Party than the Yanks. Odd fit over there.

I was leery too, especially having lived in the UK two years and being aware of their views of the US. But, he turned out to be a great guy who appreciates what the US has done for the world. He was aware that a loss of liberty in the US is a loss for the UK, indeed the whole world. I was very impressed with his knowledge of 0bama and what he stands for.

He was planning to run for Parliament as a conservative; don't know if did; I lost his email address.

The leftists in congress are deeply involved in international socialist activities. It was nice to see that at least one limey is on our side and willing to spend his pounds to defend our Constitution.
