Murkowski Will Run As Write-In
Hotline on Call ^ | 09/17/2010 | Reid Wilson and Dan Friedman

Posted on 09/17/2010 1:51:10 PM PDT by iowamark

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will run for re-election as a write-in candidate after losing her bid for renomination, according to sources briefed on Murkowski's decision.

Murkowski's decision will set up a 3-way battle between the incumbent, Miller and Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams (D), potentially turning the race on its head. Private 3-way polling has shown Miller leading, but by a narrow margin.

Murkowski will make the formal announcement tonight in Anchorage. She has been mulling her options after losing to attorney Joe Miller (R) by 1.8% -- or about 2K votes out of 110K cast.

Miller won with the backing of the Tea Party Express and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R). The Tea Party Express spent hundreds of thousands of dollars criticizing Murkowski's legislative accomplishments, and Palin campaigned against her rival in the race's closing days.

She has not formally said she will run, but her campaign is inviting reporters to call in. Murkowski spokespeople were not immediately available for comment Friday afternoon.

Campaign volunteers have been inviting supporters to a "kick-off" event tonight, the Anchorage Daily News reported this afternoon. And in comments to the paper on Thursday, Murkowski certainly sounded like a candidate.

"I'm not much of a poker player, but the analogy I've been using is that I'm sitting there and I've been dealt a six and an eight," Murkowski told the paper. "I'm not much of a poker player, but the analogy I've been using is that I'm sitting there and I've been dealt a six and an eight. But it is possible."

The NRSC has said it will back Miller, even though Murkowski is a member of Senate GOP leadership. NRSC communications director Brian Walsh referred inquiries to a statement the committee released last night and refused to elaborate further.

There is no wrath that can compare to that of a woman scorned. She is consumed by her anger and all her actions can be expected to be totally irrational. Since she didn’t come out on top, she is going to do everything she can to make sure that Miller doesn’t win - but I would suspect that everytime she thinks of Miller, the image of Sarah Palin appears in her peabrain. Hatfield & McCoy’s!

Because he legally had another option, where Murkowski does not. But both lost their party's primary election, then chose to contest against their party's choice in the general election.

RINOs are know for having small brains, and having sudden, angry actions.

All the other pro-aborts down at the Junior League were just miffed over the nerve of mere voters to remove Lisa the babykiller "moderate" and all-purpose airhead from her ancestral Senate seat. Too bad, sooooo sad!

Let Lisa split the liberal vote with the unknown Demonrat. Also, prepare another Joe Miller to be the nominee for the Ted Stevens/Begich seat or run the new conservative governor for that Senate seat and get a new solid conservative to run for governor. Let Alaska continue to be the first beachhead in the war against RINOs.

Above all, elect Christine O'Donnell in Delaware and make the RINOs and other leftists gargle sulfuric acid. She has raised $1.5 Million generally plus $42,000 from the RSCC and another reported $150,000 since winning on Tuesday night when she had only $50,000 left in her campaign fund. Her demolition of the despicable Castle has definitely struck a nerve in our enemies. Let's make it count by seeing her elected.

Same scenario is in Florida, except that Crist saw a primary loss coming soon enough to register as an Independent and get his name on the ballot. IT”S NOT WORKING. He is taking shots from Meek and Rubio and is now double digits behind Rubio.

Sounds like they have two Democrats right now.

Well,I don't know much about here other than what I've read recently. But I just looked her up on the ADA website and they only give her a 35% rating which certainly proves she's no conservative but also suggests that she could be a *lot* worse, voting record-wise.Her RAT "colleague" got a 100% rating for the same year, for example.

Her daddy Frank was the very epitome of corruption as governor. Sarah Palin was a Republican on a three-member Oil and Gas Commission and complained to Murkowski about the corruption of the other Republican who was GOP State Chairman and a Frank Murkowski buddy. Murkowski refused to remove the corrupt commissioner. Palin resigned and ran against Murkowski and left his political corpse in the gutter as he finished third in the Republican primary. I don’t know if he and/or his daughter are drunks or druggies and I suspect that they are not killers. They are useless establishment drones who need retirement like Death Valley needs water. Alaskans should take this opportunity to absolutely humiliate Lisa. Make it memorable. Make it count. Elect Miller.

Anyone know Alaska Election Law? Does the winner have to have better than 50% the vote to win? Or will it cause a runoff? If runoff votes should be pissed at extra cost and Lise would loose big then...

I’d like to see Charles Krauthammer weigh in on this one. If he doesn’t lay into Murkowski with the same vengeance that he reserved for O’Donnell in the Delaware race, then he’s a hypocritical SOB.

The only people who will write her in are the bitter-enders who are so angry they would probably vote for the Dem to spite the pubbies for not renominating her. In other words, she may draw from them rather than Miller.

Interesting take...and now that you've made me think about it, quite possible. Wouldn't that be the perfect poetic justice?

If the GOP wants to win this seat, they must immediately put pressure on Mitch McConnell to remove Murkowski from all committee positions immediately.

Send a deep and serious message. No pussyfootin’ around about it.

Show Chrissy Matthews what Hardball really is.

Huckabee isn’t in office, isn’t in any position of power in the GOP. That’s a difference between him and the others named. He’s not even a commentator of the stature of gripy Krauthammer.

Hard to say what he is, other then tiresome.

There was a lot of talk over the last year of a 3rd party.
Everyone assumed it would be conservatives forming an official Tea Party.
No one expected it would be the RINOs forming the Elitist Party.
But that is what we got. Charlie Crist, Lisa Murkowski and other ex-RINOs who have been stripped of their ‘R’s are the candidates of this 3rd party.
Their platform: 1) retain power at all costs. 2) say and do anything for votes.

Oh, it sure would be! I think it is possible because even organized write-in campaigns typically draw very, very low numbers - only the die hards. And who ever heard of a die-hard moderate?

You must not play it right, I win a lot more money with 6-8 suited than, I could ever dream of winning with A-A, or A-K. You just have to know when to let it go, just like Aces.
