Parents want their child back in school. School board says no way
Print Share Buzz up!62retweetTOP1K5diggsdigg Samuel Burgos has fond memories of his friends at school, but he only gets to see them in pictures now.
The 8-year-old boy hasn't been in school for a year and will likely miss another year if the Broward County School Board has its way.
Burgos was suspended from school in November after a teacher found a toy gun in his backpack. But when the boy went to register to go back to Pembroke Pines Charter School, he was told he will be expelled for this school year, too, as part of the county's zero tolerance weapons policy.
"He made a mistake, but why the severe punishment? I don't understand that," said Magdiel Burgos, Sam's dad.

That is why parents should sue the teachers and principal **personally**.
Hey! Teachers are always saying that they would like to be paid as much as a doctor...well?...Then should they be subject to malpractice suits just like doctors?
I've not met THAT teacher, yet.
They are government schools. There is nothing relevantly public about them,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Maybe because per hours actually spent working ( home and at school) they are already being paid **MORE** that doctors!
And... this is especially true when early retirement, total pension paid out, health insurance, sick time and other benefits are included! :-)
Why don`t they go big time and never allow him back in? That`ll teach him!!!
“This zero tolerance crap REALLY fries me!”
Perhaps. But if you make allowances in one case you have to make allowances in all cases. In that case you might as well not have any policy at all.
He should have brougth something non-threatening, like condoms./s
We even had outdoor privvies!

My old man tells me stories about his youth. He loves to tell the story about him and his buddy driving around Ft. Lee, NJ in his ‘76 Duster with a 6-pack of beers and getting pulled over. The cop took the beers and went back to the squad car and drank them with his partner. Dad was let go with a warning. Of course, open container laws and DUI laws were nonexistent or very laxed.
I’ve heard similar stories to yours about the teachers smoking with the students, but back then tobacco didn’t have the stigma that it does now.
Knives and guns are STILL tools. Limp-wristed idiots and Liberals demonize them as “killing implements,” but they never seem to cite the number of suicides by hanging, OD, drownings, etc. as a comparison.
Tools become legal issues when a small group of people gripe about how easy they are to come by or by how many people have them. Like I’ve read before, when Liberals go into fits about something, it’s generally safe to say that it’s something that an overwhelming majority of people find useful or recreationally enjoyable.
That would be quite fine by me. Ever notice how the zero tolerance crap in our schools hasn’t actually stopped any school shootings, random plastic knife stabbings, or Swiss Army knife awl battles? All we ever hear about is pre-teens getting suspended for bringing plastic knives to school or butter knives from home to cut their meals.
There’s no malice of forethought or motive in the grand majority of these cases. They’re often mistakes, misunderstandings, or silly accidents that get these kids snagged and branded as “potentially violent.”
When kids were bringing .22s to school to shoot after class, there weren’t stories about mass murders. Matter of fact, most of the BS that’s come out of DC and the teacher’s unions since the 80s has been counterproductive and make schools into makeshift daycare penitentiaries.
What, exactly, is **MORE**?
In a few years he’ll probably be leading the charge, wearing his belt buckle.
Lol! That is one of the funniest posts I have seen in a long time! :)
Why would the dimwit parents want to put him back in that zero common sense environment anyway?
Do him a favor and homeschool him.
I am chagrined and dismayed to find that no private
school in the area has offered a place to this boy.
Let us hasten the day when school and state are separated
and a homeschool network need not have the faintest qualm
about saying “ Hey Samuel; come join us” If you study
and your conduct is good you can soon join the shooting
team.
My sincerest thanks for your story here. Have you read
the essay “Little Manchurian Candidates” it’s at several
sites online, one being “The Programmer’s Stone”.
I can’t advise you personally but I do see the tide is
changing and numbers count.
That insight, about making teachers personally liable, is
one I have never seen before. It has the potential to
subvert the educational establishment.
But when he gets older a gun can be put in hands when he joins the army and fights for our freedom. This is totally nuts!!!
