social issues alienating independents

Except those independents who call themselves that because the GOP won't come out forthrightly on social issues.

And I'm not sure what's not to like about an issue with 70 percent backing among all Americans, never mind the GOP, such as normal marriage. Pro-life is a majority builder among voters the GOP can bring in, too. Don't forget the voters the Dems steal by pretending to be social conservatives. Remember phonies like Bob Casey and Jim Webb.

Does Cornyn want the GOP to get outflanked to the right again? Remember 2006: Nancy Pelosi and Hilary hid, and the Democratic 527s and candidates were talking about "values" and practically singing psalms. People forget, especially squishes, that nobody voted for liberalism, fiscal or social, in 2006.

Exactly. I am on the verge of becoming an Independent because the Republicans no longer truly espouse conservative social issues.
