Recession greases slide into poverty

Forget the positive 'economic indicators' you keep hearing about in the news. Statistics released from the U.S. Census Bureau today bear out the grim reality that many people are facing as a result of the Great Recession: More people slipped below the poverty line last year -- 3.8 million more--for a total of 43.6 million Americans, the highest actual number of people since the government started tracking poverty 51 years ago and the third straight year of increase.

That brought the national poverty rate to 14.3 percent in 2009, up from 13.2 percent in 2008, the bureau says. That rate is the highest since 1994, but not a record -- it was 8 points higher in 1959, the first year poverty became a government statistic. At the same time, a record 50.7 million people, or 16.7 percent of the population, are now without health coverage, up from 46.3 million in 2008.

In the two years since the recession started in 2007, the poverty rate has gone up 1.9 percent--not as bad as the downturn of the early '80s but worse than the 1973-75 recession, according the report 'Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2009.'

The news was bad for nearly everyone but Asians, who saw no slip in median income or poverty rates between 2008 and 2009. The poverty rate among whites, however, rose 1.2 percent, from 8.6 to 9.4 percent. For Hispanics and blacks--already suffering roughly three times the poverty rate as whites--the number in poverty increased roughly 1 percent in 2009. Nearly 26 percent of black Americans and 25.3 percent of all Hispanics now live in poverty.

Recession Obama greases slide into poverty

If there were ever an enemy of prosperity and opportunity for the middle class, it is the Marxist Barack Hussein Obama.

He is a menace to our nation and damn near everyone living here.

Obama bamboozled millions... gave them the old 'okee doke.' What a moron. He can have as extreme a views as he wants. But he can't transfer them and remake America with them.

Time to end the experiment brought on by the piss-steam media and the Bush derangement crowd.

Obama - taxes and small business aid-2sm

“If there were ever an enemy of prosperity and opportunity for the middle class, it is the Marxist Barack Hussein Obama.”

He is doing exactly what he was put in office to do.
Sadly, the idiot voters were duped and did not know that Marxist were putting him in office to destroy the USA.

The Americans with their Bush Derangement Syndrome were just too damn stupid to know what was to come.

Spot on. A friend of mine who voted for Obama can’t believe what’s happened. He should have known better. His irrational take on Bush led him to embrace a fourth-rate loser who had nothing working for him except an army of servile morons in search of a messianic figure.

Back in the Great Depression, many people lost their homes and wound up in “Hoovervilles”. This was meant as a derogatory term towards President Hoover, who they blamed for their plight.

Time we got revived the practice. Anywhere people who lose their homes or their jobs is now “0bambiville” or 0bambi-idled”.

With Obambie’s gray hair, almost no work at all, his wife
starting to get testy when she is not out spending American’s tax money, I think there will soon be a lot of discussions about his ability to complete his four year term.
I think even the puppet strings are about to break, as his handlers start to bail.
