(Sept. 15) -- So much for freedom of speech.
At the urging of the FBI, Molly Norris, the Seattle-based illustrator and cartoonist whose satirical drawing marking "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" resulted in death threats, global protests and impassioned debate about religion and censorship, has been forced to change her name and abandon her former life as a result of her controversial cartoon.
The news that Morris had, out of concerns for her safety, decided to go into hiding was first reported in the Seattle Weekly today, a paper where Norris' cartoons had regularly appeared:
The gifted artist is alive and well, thankfully. But on the insistence of top security specialists at the FBI, she is, as they put it, "going ghost": moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity. She will no longer be publishing cartoons in our paper or in City Arts magazine, where she has been a regular contributor. She is, in effect, being put into a witness-protection program -- except, as she notes, without the government picking up the tab.

My prayers for Molly Norris and her family. This is why we must also pray for the safety of Derek Fenton. May God protect him and his family and keep them safe. I hope praying FReepers join me; the power of prayer is strong.
This BS makes me want to make a huge pile of korans, pour some pig grease on them and ignite it with some gunfire. That this woman should have to give up her identity, her family, essentially her life because she excercised her right to free speech should NEVER happen here. This is EXACTLY why Qur’an’s should be burned in the West.
All of them — EVERY one. The West must show Islam that it has no place amongst us. And then we must back up our symbolic actions with real actions to protect ourselves.
To those right here on FR who suggested that they were opposed to “burning any book, no matter where from”, I say nonsense, plain and simple.
It’s a matter of survival — not only intellectual survival, but plain physical survival as well.
If you embrace the right to keep and carry arms as a matter of self-defense, you probably also embrace the idea that if someone is threatening you with a gun, and you are armed and carrying, that it’s right and proper to shoot back to defend yourself. Even if the bad guy doesn’t pull the trigger first.
Islam is “pointing its intellectual gun” at The West.
