OK for some of us who are in our 50s (or later) and not as wired into things as others, would someone please explain this internet meme that has - what appears to be - pancakes or hamburger patties floating over people’s heads.

it's sorta like post-turtles. Don't know how it got there but you know it doesn't belong. In other words, consider it to ask "what the heck are you talking about."
I don't think that was the intention in the pic of St. Charlie, patron saint of the metro-sexual set, but the faux halo does look like a pancake, doesn't it?
