Lamontagne Concedes in NH
WHDH-TV ^ | September 15, 2010 | Ovide Lamontagne

Posted on 09/15/2010 7:30:37 PM PDT by hellbender

Good afternoon. I think I recognize some of you from last night’s party. What a party! And what a campaign this has been. This has been a classic New Hampshire campaign, one for the ages that we’ll be talking about for a long time to come.

I believe that in our American Republic, the people are the sovereign – they are the king -- and government is their subject. Well, the people of NH have spoken and they have ruled. While I am disappointed with the result, I humbly accept their verdict and I would ask you to join me in doing the same.

Since the Secretary of State released his final election results earlier this afternoon, a number of our supporters have expressed their strong opinion that I ask for a recount. This is message is meant directly for my supporters from around the State of New Hampshire. I have always promised to tell you the truth, even when it hurts, or when it isn’t convenient.

In my professional life I have been involved in a number of recounts. I have reviewed the numbers and have spoken directly with Secretary of State Gardner and he has assured me that he sees no irregularities in the manner with which the results were reported to him. You know me – and you know that I’m a fighter, but I take on those fights which have a probability of success. In this case, I believe that it is in our best interests to accept the results of the election as finalized by the Secretary of State. Accordingly, I will not be seeking a recount. But I will remain a fighter for you.

A few minutes ago I spoke with Kelly Ayotte and congratulated her on her Primary victory. I have not had a chance to speak with Jim Bender or Bill Binnie, but would like to acknowledge here my gratitude to them for their well-run campaigns.

Words cannot express my gratitude for our campaign staff, for our friends and thousands of supporters and voters who brought us so close to victory yesterday. Against all odds, they contributed their time, talent and their vote in support of our campaign to advance a new conservative agenda -- and they did so in support of a candidate with the toughest name in New Hampshire politics! And I am grateful for that. And together with the help of the Union Leader – which continues to demonstrate its considerable impact particularly in a Republican primary – and conservative talk show host, Laura Ingraham, who was with us from the beginning, we were able to run a traditional and historic New Hampshire race for the ages.

Going into this campaign, I knew full-well that victory would be difficult. But we set out with a creative plan to win in September and November. And as you saw by this afternoon’s photo finish, we came very, very close. I also knew that waging this campaign would make a difference - and with the help of thousands of NH citizens, I believe we did make a difference!

We did so by staying on a positive, issue-oriented conservative message based on the core principles of freedom and liberty. We did so with the considerable support of men and women throughout the State of New Hampshire at the grassroots level in every county and every town. And we did so by conducting ourselves with dignity and decorum and we can and should all hold our heads high.

"I have said from the beginning that our nation is in crisis and we are in desperate need of conservative leadership in Washington. That remains true, so I will continue to be an advocate for conservative principles to prevail in the November election. During the campaign, you heard me talk about Ovide’s Oath – my 15 point pledge to deliver conservative reform to Washington. Today, I’m making another pledge to you. Republicans, working together with like minded Independents and Democrats will defeat Paul Hodes in November!

With that said, we must move quickly to transition into the general election in support of our Party’s nominee, Kelly Ayotte, and it is my intention to do just that. I ask our supporters to join me and do the same today.

Thank you for your support and the kindness you have shown me and my family during this past year. God bless you, God bless America and God bless the great state of New Hampshire!

A classy concession by Lamontagne, a man dismissed here on FR as "unable to poll better than 9%, " who came within a whisker of beating the anointed favorite. Had DeMint endorsed him sooner, and Palin not endorsed his opponent, he would probably have won despite having far less money backing his campaign.

Classy guy..he knows what needs to be done in November to defeat the Democrats. Mike Castle should look at Lamontagne and see how a MAN acts when he loses. You can always tell the type of person someone really is when they lose. Castle shows that he is nothing but a whiny baby while Lamontagne shows that he is a class act

Great race in New Hampshire, what to you made him a better candidate than Kelly Ayotte? Sounds like you had 2 good candidates to choose from with tea partiers and well known conservatives in both camps.

His name means, “The Mountain” in French, probably French Canuck ancestry. Good stock. Great people.

I remember the signs in the stores and gas stations up here in NH back in the day.

“Ici nous parlons Français”

Ovide would have made a great governor when he ran against the pro-abortion fanatic Jeanne Shaheen, who is now our other senator (ugh).

He would have made a great senator.

But Kelly Ayotte is no Jeanne Shaheed, and her demonRAT opponent, Paul Hoades, is a barking moonbat.

I will gladly vote for Kelly in November.

I saw some signs today which said “Not Ayotte.” Not sure what their motive is. We had better pull together and get her elected, because Hodes would be a disaster. Charlie Bass won the R nomination in the 2nd district. He’s a “moderate,” but far better than his Demonrat opponent Kuster, who boasted of her support for infant homicide....I mean “the right to choose.” She was the tool of an extreme Leftist group who targeted her opponent (Swett) for supporting Lieberman in 2008.

I certainly hope so, although he has now run 3x for elected office and never won. But Ayotte has never even run for office before, which is somewhat scary. Go Kelly!

I agree. All the careerist RINOs have been abysmal self-centered twerps - whether it is Crist, Specter, Skuzzyfava, Castle, Murkowski - and the conservative patriots have been class acts.

I sure hope this good man runs for the House in his district and for the US Senate again at the very next opening.

He will get massive support.

True gentleman.

Moonbat is an understatement...Hodes was attacking Ayotte this evening; criticizing her as a "global warming denier"...and this jackass is a nominee for the United States Senate?

You are right - we've got a number of solid conservative candidates here now. It is up to us now to get out the votes we need for victory in November, and to support our conservative candidates - whether winners or losers in this current round - for victory in future races.

Mr. Lamontagne would make an excellent Governor or Representative or Senator - hopefully he will be willing to enter the fray again in the future.

Looks like you’ll have Bass pretty soon (curb your enthusiasm); but he beats the hell out of Kuster, who is slightly worse than Hodes, IMO.

I didn't vote for him but I could have supported him if he had won. I hope he stays visible and takes a run at Queen Jean.

Bass is solidly pro-gun, but he’s also pro-abortion.

But he’s not a pro-abortion fanatic like Kuster. She’s a flaming NARAL hag, as well as a jumping-up-and-down communist.
