Rep. Taylor becomes first Dem to back repealing health reform
The Hill ^ | September 15, 2010 | Michael O'Brien

A Democratic lawmaker signed onto a Republican petition to repeal healthcare reform.

Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) signed onto a discharge petition drafted by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), Taylor's office confirmed. His office would not offer any additional comment.

Taylor is the first Democrat to sign onto the petition, a reflection of the tough electoral climate facing Democrats this fall, especially over healthcare reform.

“Adding Rep. Taylor to the discharge petition is a significant step towards repealing Obamacare,” said King. “Rep. Taylor is the first Democrat to sign the discharge petition, and it is my hope that his decision will pave the way for other Democrats who support repeal to break ranks with Speaker Pelosi and President Obama.”

Taylor had voted against the bill on final passage, along with 34 other Democrats.

Republicans have made repealing healthcare reform a key part of their midterm election messaging; House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) called repealing the law a "mainstream" GOP position earlier on Wednesday.

Sounds like he’s worried for his reelection.

He’s in a safe seat. All the blue haired, well moneyed old ladies in Bay St Louis, Waveland and Pass Christian think he walks on water. They don’t listen to what he says in DC or how he votes.

When the time is ripe, all it takes is one rock to start an avalanche. It would really be impressive to see Dems who voted FOR ObamaCare leaping onto this bandwagon.

Why do it then? I am going to call Travis Childers here in district one to see what he thinks about this.

There are, what..30-34 Dems who did NOT vote for Obamacare..yet he is the first one to sign the discharge petition. The House GOP should hold them to their promise BEFORE the election..it’s put up or shut up time..

Yep, let’s hope he’s the rock that starts it. If even a few Dems sign on that voted for it Obama and the leftists will have fits.

Political expediency; he knows the direction the wind blows.

The bastard is having nightmares where he smells hot boiling tar and sees clouds of feathers coming at him at the speed of heat...

If you reelect a Democrat to Congress, you have not been paying attention...

gene is a socialist. He believes in redistribution of wealth. He believes that no one should be allowed to leave real wealth to their children and families. I heard gene debate Muths back when WGCM radio was on 21st Ave in Gulfport. They held the debate in their studio.

gene admitted that he was not going to leave his children any wealth. He said that the government has the right to take a person's life long gains and redistribute it to the poor and needy. He said that black people would never attain equality until they achieved economic equality... and that taking from working people and giving it to special interest groups, was the only way that equality can be reached in America. He said and I quote, "If that makes me a socialist, then I guess I am a socialist".

He is good on guns and the Military... but any Republican would be as strong. He has done some good things but he votes with pelosi 75% of the time... he lies... and he is a friggin’ dim.

Yeah, Hancock County is infested with dems, most refuges from NOLA, but loads of homegrown too. He has strong support from Harrison County which never ceased to surprise me. It used to amaze me that he would claim credit for Navy contracts for the ship yards in Pascagoula. Trent Lott had much more influence on that.

Like I said, the supporters simply believed what he said, never fact checked his claims. I'll tell you this; he had many unpleasant town hall meetings in the past two years. The Coast has an active, well coordinated TEA Party movement. They gave him hell for supporting Pelosi for Speaker! LOL!

Who is Taylor’s Repub. opponent this time, and does he look like he’s going to be able to mount a good challenge?

I’m totally amazed at the difference between Taylor and the dems out here in Oregon.

Don’t get me wrong...I know he’s a ‘rat, and doesn’t always vote the way we would like.

And...he’s probably feeling heat because of his party’s actions.

However, I certainly wish there were more ‘rats like him who think about his viability BEFORE statist laws are enacted.

I’d love to see these ‘rats have some cojones* when it matters.

*That was for you, arthurus. ;o)

He also voted for the stimulus and all of the other communist trappings of obama. Just this morning, Palazzo the Republican running against gene, is running an ad calling gene what he is... pointing out that he voted for all of pelosi’s evil laws and it is a doozy!!! gene may very well lose his anointed position this time!
