Delaware Crosses the Washington

By C. Edmund Wright

Establishment Washington got yet another whipping last night, as "the unelectable" Christine O'Donnell -- supported by Sarah Palin and the Tea Parties -- rallied to convincingly beat liberal and well-connected Mike Castle in Delaware's Republican primary for Senate. Castle, we were told by the powers that be, was the only electable Republican -- and his loss is already being mourned by "Beltway conservatives" like Karl Rove and Dana Perino, not to mention the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which has announced that O'Donnell will have to finance her campaign on her own.

Well, fine. The last time Republican voters agreed with the Beltway pundits (and the Democrats) and awarded a nomination to "the most electable Republican" who was "well-respected across the aisle," we got John McCain. How did that work out? Just great -- as long as you are a Democrat.

Thankfully, tiny Delaware's voters ignored their party apparatus, actually held a true Republican primary, and chose the person who most closely represents what the Republican base voter believes in. This is what party primaries used to be for. It is what they should still be held for. It is simply unforgivable for Republican apparatchiks to choose sides in a primary -- yet they do -- and they are so often disastrous picks. Can you say "Arlen Specter"? "Charlie Crist"?

So while there's no guarantee of success in November for O'Donnell, she joins a list of "unelectable Republicans" past and present like Ronald Reagan, Jesse Helms, Rand Paul, Scott Brown, Sharron Angle, Chris Christie, and Marco Rubio, to name a few. Their stories are varied, but all were deemed "unelectable" by the party insiders at some point in their careers, and they were all considered too conservative.

We don't want your money, RNC. Fasten your beltway boys, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Karl Rove is so yesterday. Just another old disgruntled establishment Republican.

Karl, it’s time to slink away to that vacation condo in Costa Rica (or wherever) and get out of the way of the New Republicans!

Rove and Perino are on Fox News all the time. I use to pay attention to them, but after this, I’ll watch the golf channel instead.

O’Donnell is the underdog now.

Won’t it be strange if Delaware has more conservatives than anyone thinks?

Regulars on Hannity. I stopped watching Hannity and watch reruns of "Everybody Loves Raymond" instead.

Rove and Perino have probably already picked their candidate for 12.

Keep that in mind when listening to their opinions.

“Keep that in mind when listening to their opinions.”

I never listen to their opinions.

Yes!

I am so sick and tired of these washed-up hacks making money by appearing on FOX.

Just like the Republican Party, FOX needs new blood.

I’ve started watching reality shows in the 8 to 10 pm slot.

That’s how desperate I am!

The RNC folks are also going to start getting a heck of a lot less money in the future, so their input will be less and less important.

It is weird to see them in panic mode, though.

Heh! I’ve started watching “Hoarders” in that time slot.

It is a metaphor for the Republican Party.

Wacky compulsive RNC people storing up slimy, moldy, useless old politicians and trying to convince themselves (and us) that it’s not time to discard the trash...yet!!!

Might be nice to see that Saudi investment divested too. Not sure I can even trust the commentators (except Jerry: I never trusted him and never will).

I know conservatives who said Angle was “too radical”. There are smart people out there still believing the media.

As I’ve always said, vote for the candidate who shares your beliefs, not for who can win.

I don’t understand why so many on here hate on Morris.

Yes, years ago he was a left wing political shill. It is also obvious (to anyone actually paying attention) that he long ago abandoned his liberal views and came over to the conservative right.

Morris (imho) has legitimatly convervted from a liberal to a conservative. We should be celebrating conversions like these, when someone steps out of the liberal darkness and into the conservative light.

I am thoroughly enjoying this. All these self-proclaimed “spokesmen” for the Republican establishment are being blind-sighted as a result of their arrogance. They thought they had We The People pegged.
