Joseph DioGuardi has won a three-way Republican primary election in a bid to unseat Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.
The former congressman from suburban Westchester County faces a Democrat with a wide lead in the polls and far more campaign cash.
The win is a turnaround for DioGuardi, who had to petition his way on to the ballot after failing to muster enough party support at the state convention.
DioGuardi defeated Bruce Blakeman, a former Long Island local lawmaker, and David Malpass, a former Bear Stearns chief economist.
He is the father of former "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi.

Wow! I only know him because of his daughter being on American Idol. Will he win this seat?

He was the one who stood with McCain and cheered Clinton’s bombing of Yugoslavia.

“Will he win this seat?”
Never say never, but he’s 70 y/o and hasn’t won an election since 1986.

Very little chance of this one, even with Paladino coat tails. (yes, I mean that)

What is it about “American Idol”? Scott Brown’s daughter was a contestant.

The Muzzies should love him too, since he supported the KLA.

The hilarious thing is that DioGuardi kind of has a chance in this race. Gillenbrand is not exactly setting the world on fire.

Stranger things have happened I guess. Paladino won the governor’s race tonight in his victory speech. It was one of those moments like when Scott Brown called it ‘the people’s seat’. He did it with two words:
Status Cuomo.
That and a whole lot of everything we like about Chris Christie and none of the stuff we don’t. Carl’s going to wipe the floor with prince Andrew. I knew we had a better chance with Paladino than Lazio, but now I’m extremely confident Paladino will win.

That would be amazing. I don’t think so, but I’m happy to be wrong.
