A federal bill mandating proper care and management for concussions suffered by youth athletes took an important legislative step today.
Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), who co-authored the Concussion Treatment and Care Tools Act, and Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) today held the first of two hearings before the health subcommittee for the ConTACT Act at the Prudential Center.

Even when Pallone apple-polishes, he comes off as a busy-body nanny-stater. Congress knows better than a kid's parents and doctors when it is safe to return to the field, don'tcha know...
Too many laws already.
Where do you have to be hit to get a “cuncussion”?
I guess this newspaper fired its editor.
In your beeber.
Why is this even a federal issue? Good Lord. Enough with the government nannies already!!!!
What is a CUN Cussion?..
Another fine example of our ‘limited’ federal guvmint. /s
The headline spelled athileets wrong.
A porn-related injury.
Don't ask how I know.
Does a cuncussion involve being stuned?
It probably involves a fat lady and a midget....
Nice to see hime take a stand against the formidable “Pro Adolescent Concussion” lobby. :)
It is urgent that we address this public health crisis funding opportunity, Boyd (Joanna, the public education coordinator for the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey) testified. Grants would give us the tools to keep our athletes, dachas safe. Its time to protect exploit our youth from needless disability for more taxpayer money.
Pardon me if I voice some trepidation regarding this legislation. The little appreciated side effect of Congress meddling into this matter is the inevitability of over regulation. You watch, before long there will be a requirement for a board certified neurologist at games and practices. This will then lead to the attitude that there should never be any injuries in sports which means that if you are a local doctor volunteering your time to help out your local school, your malpractice carrier is going to now require riders on your policy. When that happens, physicians will run away from their volunteer status and require the school district to either pay them or pay for their malpractice rider. The budget strapped schools will not be able to fund what was previously given away freely and the volunteer docs from around the country will virtually disappear. And oh, I haven’t even mentioned the attorney feeding frenzy that will ensue
Why don’t they just craft a federal bill that will ban concussions? Problem fixed.
It's for the Children!
When the US Congress begins to debate the injury time-outs at high school football games, you know the Republic has jumped the shark.
We're doomed.
