Are poll workers being used to inflate jobs totals?
NY Post ^ | September 14, 2010 | John Crudele

Workers at polling places for today's primary and November's general election are being required to file tax withholding forms for the first time ever in a move that could be aimed at inflating the nation's employment numbers.

Is this really a little Election Eve trick? Here's what I learned, you decide.

The New York City Board of Elections, which uses 30,000 to 36,000 temporary workers for both the primary and general election, said it is being ordered by the Internal Revenue Service to make "employees" out of the very temporary workers who tend the polling sites.

But an IRS spokesperson couldn't find such an order.

"The Internal Revenue Service has determined that all poll workers are considered employees of the Board of Elections for tax purposes," said a Board memo dated Aug. 2 and signed by Rosanna Kostamoulas Rahmouni, coordinator of Election Day Operations.

"Therefore, the Board is required to have every poll worker complete the following before processing your application for work," her note added, listing tax forms W-4 and IT-2104 as necessary.

"It is imperative that you promptly submit the forms or you will not be paid for your training class or processed to work on Election Day," she said.

I’ve seen this speculated a number of times and always brushed past it. I got to ask, is the number of “poll workers” THAT big compared with the overall number of jobs of all kinds? I’d think this is looking at three or more decimal places to the right in the employment numbers.

You can count on an unexpectedly rosy jobs report just before the election.

Of course they are. That was the purpose of the fire/rehire scheme - to pad the numbers. Everything this president does is a lie. A facade. His presentation is like the false building fronts in an old western movie. From a distance, they look real but as soon as you look close, you see that they are a false front with no substantiation behind them.

The real manipulation of the unemployment numbers involves changing the size of the workforce by eliminated workers allegedly so discouraged they have stopped looking for work. This is a statistical exercise to suppress reporting of the real level of unemployment/underemployment which is likely at depression levels.

I don’t know what New York pay’s their poll workers, but here in Md. They pay 25 bucks gor attending the class. I burn $10 worth of gas to get there. They pay $125 for working a day that starts at 5:30 am and stops at 10:00pm, . You have to provide your own lunch and drinks, and you are not allowed to leave the polling place or use your cell phone during the day.

Great pay, Huh?

I didn’t do it this year, getting too old to stand on that cement floor all day.

The Dems are looking out of touch to me and to their usual voting base. You can’t say “see we’re recovering” when everyone sees that we’re not and expect the voters to flock to your defense.

You can count on an unexpectedly rosy jobs report just before the election.

And an 'unexpected' downward adjustment afterwards.

No way our second black president, mulatto, Christian, Muslim, communist, marxist, crack addict, cig smoking, never go to church, dictator appeaser, always on vacation, do nothing, tax increasing, welfare loving, community organizer union thug would ever do something criminal, callous, dirty, lying, to simply inflate his own arrogant, egotistical numbers!

When will the IRS "order" prospective jurors to file W4's?

Pay is minimal and they want taxes? They can kiss my $$$, I don’t give money for abortions.

So if everybody refuses - or better yet, claim 535 dependents - will they cancel the elections? That’s the RATs only hope.

In our county, the judges are more volunteers than anything.

They take the election jobs for years for the extra pin money or for a chance to get out and mix with the folks in their precinct.

I've got a picture of them declaring these jobs on their IRS forms. Many will quit. It will be difficult getting replacements, let alone experienced ones.

There's going to be chaos in the precincts and polling places this November in many ways, you can bet on it.

But this is what Obama and his thugocracy want, isn't it?

Every poll worker in my township is over 70. They may not like the paperwork, but it isn’t going to effect their taxes. These are mostly little old ladies who look sweet and smile at everyone, but they are furious. They all have extended family and everyone is obviously hurting.

At least here, I would bet that they IRS requirements simply solidify the disgust.

My daughter started a job last spring, working at a movie theater. A few weeks ago she had to fill out a vary IRS-looking form, basically saying this was a ‘new job’ - she hadn’t been employed for months before and was now working. Looked to me like the employer was going for some kind of tax credit. Last weekend she was laid-off due to cutbacks - as they were training new people. I think the guy has a revolving door going, but I don’t quite understand the reasons..
