Russia was militarily at their peak. If the German army couldn't finish them off, what makes him think the we could.

Considering what Russia became after the war, I'd say that Patton's idea, at least politically, was excellent. Logistically, perhaps less so.

Pattons idea was lunacy either way you cut it. If he had gotten his way there would be a lot more chopped liver to go around.
