How does a city lose 2,500 feet of tunnels under its streets?

The manholes and pipes weren't laid? Holy double entendre, Batman.

The same way they lose grave sites at Arlington, this is not rocket science.

I have a manhole cover on my property the city claims doesn’t exist. it goes to a brick and mortar waterway big enough to drive a semi down. Yet the city claims that pipe don’t exist. Maybe i should go exploring?

Don’t worry...they’ll never misplace your pipes or manholes. Nothing at all to worry about. All is well.

Easy. Travellers.

“Sure we’ll put that pipe in, we had some extra laying around from a job we just finished up the street.”

Yet the city claims that pipe don’t exist.

Then it's probably not really there. That's why you have "the city". You don't have to think for yourself. That is called "freedom" in some circles. /s

PS -- and yeah, I'd go exploring too!

Doubtful.

I’m close to a very large river. I’d say it goes to the river. or did at one time. But since the city claims its not there, I’d say it’s capped at the river somewhere, and capped somewhere up the hill in the city somewhere.

come to think of it, I can remember twice in the last 25 years the street up the hill has collapsed into a sinkhole and had to be repaired. I bet it’s the same tunnel. The tunnel may even be half filled in by now. I haven’t looked down that manhole in 20 years. I bet everytime they fill in the sinkhole and repave, the fill dirt washes down the tunnel a little more and the street caves in again.
