SAS soldiers are standing by for an emergency evacuation of Britons from Pakistan amid fears of a military coup.
There are concerns that hardliners in Pakistans army are becoming impatient with the crisis and want faster solutions and a more determined effort to stamp out the terrorist menace.
A diplomatic source said: There are more and more rumours that some people in the military view a military takeover as the best way to bring greater stability.

I think this article is biased. The country has a horrible disaster with tens of millions of people effected and the civilian government is paralyzed and the president is in a villa in France. There is a very good argument that the country needs the military to take the reigns. There may be a lot of negatives to that, but it's ridiculous to ignore the situation on the ground right now.

Just the other day, the Pakistani President categorically stated there is no chance of a coup.
Which means one is imminent.

Whether warranted or not, the problem with a coup is that they don’t always go as planned. The Indians are not exactly big fans of political instability in Pakistan given their past history and the nuke issue.
You can bet if there becomes a question of who controls the keys to the Paki nukes, the Indians are going to make noise.

One would hope that they have their own Pakistani version of Pinochet. (Hell, we could use one right here on our own soil right about now).

Along with Turkey, after the vote on their constitution that gives more power to the Islamic Party and subordinates the military to it. The military there had always been the protector of the Ataturk secular revolution.

I have been saying for a long time that we are in exactly the same political situation as Rome at the fall of the Republic. We are one riot away from Cesar Americanus crossing the Potomac. Put it this way would you stand in front of an M1A2 to defend Obama?
