Tea party to GOP: Defund health care By: Simmi Aujla September 13, 2010 02:46 PM EDT
A major tea party group is asking Republican congressional leaders to include cutting funds to implement the new health care law in a contract the GOP plans to roll out later this month.
On Monday, the Tea Party Express and DeFundit.org sent letters to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) seeking support.
Unfortunately we will not be able to pass repeal legislation until there are 60 amenable senators to avoid a filibuster and a Republican president to sign it, the groups wrote. By the time such a majority is secured, Obamacare will be well on its way to becoming another entrenched, immortal entitlement program.
Therefore, a more immediate and comprehensive strategy is in order to ensure this train wreck of a law doesnt leave the station, they said. Specifically, we are calling for the Republican Party to include defunding Obamacare as the part of your contract with citizens this fall.

If they don’t, we’re sunk.
If the GOP takes over just the House..there will be no excuse for not shutting down the govt and defunding Obamacare. There will be some one term new comers and some early retirements if the fail to act. Gridlock isn’t an option..no excuses.
Go Cards to GOP, defund Obamacare!
Along with defunding, the legislation must make it abundantly clear that there is to be no “restructuring” of priorities to enable the administration to “re-task” allocated funds toward unfunded areas.
Defund the “alphabets” as well.
0bama and the left are using the EPA as their new Gestapo to get their “green” agenda passed without legislation.
The GOP must drive a stake into the heart of this monster. There are no halfway measures allowed.
NOT. ONE. PENNY!
Defund the left period.
I agree with Tom DeLay on this one. He says the first act of the new House should be to pass a one-page bill REPEALING Senate Bill (Whatever the number is). This will at the very least put all of the new members of Congress on record with a vote for or against Obamacare. After the thrashing they are going to take, it's just possible that we'd get enough Dems to cross over and vote for repeal that it would be a veto proof vote.
Eric, for the record we submariners don't sink, we "Dive".
Where are the cooler heads of FReeRepublic to explain that defunding ObamaCare is kookery and crazy and sure to lead to R electoral losses for a generation?
Where are the cooler heads that will explain that we need leftist-lite moderate R’s who will get along with the leftist Dems?
Come on FReeRepublic, you are not providing me with the entertainment I expect!
Was on a submarine once at Yokosuka.

I might've been there. I was TAD to the USS Banner (which was homeported there - the sister ship to the USS Pueblo) when their supply type had to go on emergency leave for a month in 1969.

I say pass whatever repeal legislation is possible and force the president to veto it. Ditto with all other unpopular measures the Democrats have shoved through. Even if there aren’t enough votes to override the vetoes, ObamaCare and many other enacted measures are so unpopular with the public that his vetoes should infuriate and reinvigorate opposition voters in 2012.
WHAT??? And give up all of that POWER over the nation and the public??!!! That is NOT what our ruling class betters DO!!!
defunding the bill is very, very short sighted. It is a start and must be done but that leaves it an active bill that could be funded at anytime in the future. The liberals will make it their mission to fund the bill. Make them start from scratch by repealing it.
It should be defunded, then repealed and replaced with a free market reform bill.
Ain’t gonna happen no matter how many seats the dims lose. If you believe it you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Ever the cynic.
