I agree with MO on one thing....most kids menus are terrible, that’s why when my son was little, we would order him a salad or meal off the regular menu. Our child, our choice. Waitresses would always look at him like he had two heads when he was 3 or 4 and would order a salad with ranch dressing.
Waitresses would always look at him like he had two heads when he was 3 or 4 and would order a salad with ranch dressing.*laughing* That's great!! We promoted healthy foods as well, and after 25 years, only one of our four eats junk (although no pop/gum which is good!), two eat okay, and the fourth eats no junk whatsoever. I still do, however, *sigh* and it's a daily battle. Maybe MO can help me pick out my lunch ... :)
My parents did about the same thing with me. We also usually reserved fast food in general for road trips, fancier restaurants for special occasions. My parents almost always, even at the fast-food restaurants, had my siblings and I eat some salad with whatever else it was we ate, I found out later as to exactly why.
Never could understand child’s menu’s in restaurants. Just order them some meat/chicken/fish and then vegetables, potato and some salad. That’s what we did. If they don’t eat it all take it home. Children should learn to eat good nutritional healthy foods from day one when they go off the bottle. We always fixed our meals. We ate our dinner and that’s what the kids had too. Then dessert and then later some cookies, candy or milk. they also were allowed candy or sweets throughout the day but they had to eat their dinner. Was a simple rule and they really didn’t get all that hungry after a meal either. What they had was filling and then their dessert. All eaten at the table and not running around the house with drinks and food.
