RAYVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Rayville police officer was shot and killed last night after responding to a burglary in progress in Richland Parish. Louisiana State Police say around 9:15pm, fifty-seven year-old Rayville Police Officer, Thomas M. Alexander, responded to a 911-call at a home on HWY 80, east of Rayville. Officer Alexander was searching inside the home when he was shot and killed by one of the suspects.

Robert J. Walker (52 year-old male from Rayville) was arrested at the scene. A second suspect, Anthony D. Oatis (30 year-old male from Monroe), was arrested in Richland Parish about two hours after the shooting. The third suspect, Richard L. Long, Jr. (33 year-old from Monroe), was arrested this morning in Monroe. Long was originally booked at the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center as a fugitive from Richland Parish, but was later transferred to the Richland Parish Detention Center. All three suspects have been booked at the Richland Parish Detention Center for First Degree Murder of a Police Officer and Aggravated Burglary and are currently being held without bond.

May the Lord bring comfort to all those who mourn, and justice to those responsible for this tragic loss of life.

This is just terrible.
Does Louisiana have capital murder charges? In TX killing a cop would be considered Capital Murder allowing the death penalty.

Waiting for the cop haters to offer their condolences here on Free Republic. They are very quick to criticize. God bless this family, rest in peace hero.
