My friends all wait.
They wait to make use of their degrees. They wait for a job to open. They wait to finish graduate school. Again.
They all wait. The economy stinks. It stunk before we started earning salaries. The job market is nonexistent. Even small colleges are filled up. The technology we mastered as curious children is sitting there, but we can't do anything with it. No, it's too busy. It's being used by you people.
And the jobs? You people. The schools? Again, you people. You baby boomers. You're why we're waiting.
Like every generation before us, my generation has gone to school. Most of us are dangling our feet in our parents' homes while boomers continue to work so they can make money. And put off retirement. And attempt to keep the economy afloat you know, the economy the boomers ruined.
Lately, some critics have concluded that the current 20-somethings are delaying their careers, staying at home and relying on mommy and daddy because they're lazy, or disinterested, or scared of social commitment.
I disagree, and profoundly.
The main reason we 20-somethings still sleep at mom's house is because mom and dad won't get out of the work force. They're clogging the pipeline.
Baby boomers make up the largest generation in American history. The current 20-something generation is almost as large, ironically, thanks to the boomers having all those kids.
LMAO
I am appalled when I hear the media and others call 20 something kids too.
College Kids... EXCUSE ME ??? Oh, that makes my blood boil!
I am only 25. And even HERE, people belittle that as if I have NO experience. I've been working since I was 14 and NOT flipping burgers.
We have created a society which CANNOT support itself, CANNOT govern itself and we are then surprised when it votes for Obama and his kind!
For nearly 6,000 YEARS... "14" was considered "adult". Now, we have this miserable failure of 20th century German Socialism which seeks to collect children at 4 years old and sequester them in a government institution, depriving them of real learning and do so until they are in their mid twenties.
Of course they call it "public" and "higher" education... A friend of mine called it "Government run daycare and corruption camp for 4 to 24 year olds".
He was exactly right!!
My resume reads McD's, other restaurants, grunt work at a bank, a commission based job and so forth and so on in the early years. Those jobs still exist. The trick is to do them like they are not beneath you and gain the respect of your bosses. It is amazing where you can go when you establish a reputation of a willingness to work.
I made 2 pennies a bale. I would come away with 30 bucks. Thats work.
I didn’t plan to retire @ 60 but the company did it for me.
What I never expected at the time was that my two main income checks (Social Security and GM Pension) would come from a guy named Baraq Hussein.....
If we had 50 Million more people competing for the last few remaining jobs still in the USA, there would probably be open warfare. Unfortunately, all the good start up jobs once in this country are now overseas. Whole factories uprooted and reassembled over there. No white collar jobs left except for marketing, possibly until they get that also. So what is left? Consulting. Everyone will become consultants and offer their services to those who remain here with the small businesses which were not folded up. Too bad this isn’t the “Soylant Nation”. That would solve everything./s
America is a melting pot of workers and scabs. Unfortunately the scabs are in power and have been for a long time.
>Which generation spawned the hippie movement again? Oh, thats rightit was the Boomers.
Umm, no.
The hippies were part of the Boomer generations.
It was the greatest generation that spawned the hippies - who were in fact, boomers.
Bottom line is that our wealth has been confiscated and redistributed and pretty much trashed to subsidize those colleges you keep attending, so we have no choice to continue working.
What a retard.
There’s only two ways to grow an economy: increase productivity per worker or increase the number of workers.
We could easily do both for a long time if the private sector wasn’t terrified of government at every level.
You millenials can thank that dumbass present that you thought would be so cool to elect.
I have to say this is a stupid diatribe.
I don’t know what this youngster is complaining about. He & his kind are all after these cerebral, creative professions. They’re all paying off student loans for “Womyn’s Studies” or “Communications.” I don’t see any going after the more concrete, hands-on jobs in which the Boomers & Xers are settled.
That's what I did. Few want to do that these days it seems.
I find this subject disturbing altogether. We should discern between Conservative and Liberal for the sake of saving freedom, not old and young.
The old and young thing is nothing but a form of envy.
Exactly! They’ve been handed alot, and now they want more. Get creative, like we did, and make it on your own for once. Snivelling whiner.
My dad kicked me out of his house when I was 18.
By age 26 I was a married father, been drafted and served, returned to and completed my BA, started grad school, bought my first house and obtained a professional position.
I would be one with little sympathy for young adults who, into their 30s,living with mom, whining about finding work, when I see so many with cellphones, texting, tattooed, pierced, etc.
I may have to work longer than my father or grandfather, partly thanks to the youngsters voting Obama and his band of socialists into power.
It is interesting to watch being a GEN Xer. I watched as the boomers told my Mom’s generation to hit the road. Many of that generation were treated terribly. Now, the entitlement generation comes along and treat the Boomers with the same kind of disrespect and nastiness. As a GenXer all I can say is get the popcorn. This could get interesting.
