WASHINGTON (AFP) House Republican Minority Leader John Boehner said Sunday that his party is set to make significant gains in November legislative elections, but called regaining control "an uphill fight."
"I think winning the House (of Representatives) is still an uphill fight, but I can tell you that we have great candidates across the country and we have a great opportunity," Boehner told CBS television's "Face The Nation."
Boehner declined, however, to give much credit to insurgent "Tea Party" Republicans -- who have ousted several established party candidates with anti-incumbent fervor -- for his party's renewed vigor.
"The Tea Party folks, Republicans, Independents and for that matter, there are a lot of Democrats that I've talked to over the last several months who are going to show up and vote for Republicans this time," he said.
"This is a rebellion like I've never seen. I've never seen the American people more engaged in their government than what we see right now and I believe that we're going to have a big chance in November and I'm looking forward to it."
Polls released earlier this week cemented the conventional wisdom that President Barack Obama's fellow Democrats face a pounding by Republicans in November.
The surveys, published after the traditional campaign kick-off date of the Labor Day weekend, suggest voters have soured on Obama, see him as too liberal and are increasingly pessimistic about the sluggish economic recovery.

Smoke off? never work, Boehner smokes Marlboro obummer smokes crack.
Michelle Bachmann for Speaker!!
For example:
Pay for the tax cuts? Odd, never heard you ever ask anyone in the Democrat party how they were going to pay for the $13.4 trillion in new spending they saddled us with.
However, as you know, tax cuts pay for themselves by increasing overall economic activity. If those increases are not enough “pay for”, as you call it, the tax cuts we can simply defund as much of the new spending 0bama and the Democrats spent the last 18 months saddling us with as we need to, to “pay for it”.
There have been one “H” of a lot of these type of articles about how the Repubs are going to clean the DemoRATS clocks this coming November recently, and I would believe the MSM will continue.
The reason I BELIEVE there are so many such articles COULD be to instill over confidence in those inclined to vote Republican, and cause them to perhaps think they can skip voting as everybody else will pick up, and carry the day.
It seems the Dems have already a track record of NOT voting in the recent elections anywhere near the turnouts they had leading up to, and at the time of the election of the Obamajesty, therefore it’s reasonable to believe the MSM would influence writings to cause negative turnout if possible within the ranks of Republican voters.
This is something we must keep a wary eye.
Agreed.
The DEms didn’t seize and hold power for so many years by being dumb,, stupid maybe but not dumb.
I have never found this characterization of Barry as “liberal” to be accurate. Barry and his coterie of lefty megalomaniacs believe in central command violating the will of the American public. You see it again and again. Seems more accurate to say that the American public finds him too radically far to the left rather than too liberal.
0bama and the Democrat leadership are authoritarian to the core, and together they form a leftist oligarchy, at times very much resembling a dictatorship. The only debate between the "separated powers" this session has been over how much they think they can get away with. They are NOT liberal in the classic sense at all.
Most of us are probably (and I am certainly) more liberal than they are.
“It is unfortunate that “liberal” has become synonymous to “leftist” in the basic political lexicon used in the United States.”
Yes, seems that lefty politicians and journalists have been referring to fellow travelers as “liberals” for decades as a P.R. tool to make themselves appear more friendly to the poor and uneducated, when it’s these demographics that have suffered the most by radically leftist policies such as those that Obama represents/implements.
Exactly. And if the leftist movement is allowed to progress, it is entirely possible for a NAZI style regime to emerge. The various groups of misfits who form their core constituency will be surprised to find themselves (as it has always been) the first to go to the concentration camps.
There will be big gains. The trillion dollar question is, how big?
So true. Show me a true left-wing ideologue and I will show you somebody filled with intolerance and hatred of others. Never I have experienced such visceral hatred as when I try to engage in an intelligent conversation with a dyed-in-the-wool liberal. They are bound and determined to cling to their ideology and if given the power, I am convinced that they will have no compunction lining up against a wall those who disagree with them and shooting them to death.
“The reason I BELIEVE there are so many such articles COULD be to instill over confidence in those inclined to vote Republican, and cause them to perhaps think they can skip voting as everybody else will pick up, and carry the day.”
You are absolutely right. The military’s use of Reverse Propaganda has deeply infiltrated our media and society.
I saw a hundred plus seat gain in the House months ago.. The Senate, a dozen at least,, Yup.
Of course, that was after one of Obama’s speeches which doubles as a great college beer&word association drinking game..
but I wouldn’t surprise me.. we could be looking at an epic ending to O’s agenda,, altho he already got most of what he could have hoped for..
