Except that the same “individual right” would apply to burning bibles. Clearly some things that are legally permissible are spiritually unwise.

I remember there was an image of them burning the American flag and one of the protesters caught fire. Does anyone have that?

still at 303 views — 7:29PM EST. My son had explained this to me awhile back, I had never seen it in action until this one. What he said was that they either lock the counter (apparently the approach today) or keep decrementing it regularly. THe reason being is that apparently videos with a high number of views get bumped up based on “popularity” on various youtube pages and lists etc. I don’t know the details as I don’t go to youtube unless someone sends me a link or I see one in a thread. But that is what he explained to me a while back...

It was probably deemed America’s fault that the terrorist jerk got burned.

I believe that 100%. I think Google doesn’t want this on the “What’s Hot” page. I’d be interested to know how many hits it’s gotten. There are a heckuvalot more comments than 303.

Siena, please...

Americans didn’t need to do anything to the Islamic world to incite them to attack us. The very book you complain about burning, commands its followers to convert, subjugate, or kill every unbeliever they find.

Our very existence is an incitement for these animals to attack us.

Our military personnel in the war zone couldn’t be in any greater danger than they already are. We’re at war, Siena. There’s no getting around that. You think burning a copy of their “holy” book is an incitement for them to riot? How about the fact that America has troops on the ground in one of their countries, and is killing as many of them as possible?

I notice you don’t seem to be worried about them inciting us to do violence. Shouldn’t they have worried that Americans would burn every mosque in this country, when they beheaded Daniel Pearl? Shouldn’t they be worried that we’ll bomb their “holy” cities because they celebrated on 9/11 and burned our flag?

That’s the problem, Siena. They’re not worried, because they can rely on people like you to back down and attempt to handle these atrocities in a ‘civilized’ manner. You really need to understand that extending the olive branch to these seventh century retrogrades does nothing except embolden them to further acts of violence against us.

What works in the real world, is putting a few thousand heads on pikes, and turning a few of their choicest cities into rubble. Sorry, but that’s real life, whether you like it, or not.

I disagree, because I also believe that a Muslim or a Jew burning a Bible would be uncivil, and I believe that people who burn the flag are abusing their right to free speech.

You are missing the forest for the trees. Christians are not presently killing Jews or Muslims purely because of thier religion, and the Christian bible does not advocate that they do. The Koran DOES advocate such violence; the Koran doesn't advocate the mere burning of symbols; it advocates bloodshed and death. Muslims and Jews have no just reason to burn bibles. IF they burned bibles, however, it would certainly be civil compared to burning "infidels."

We have become so finicky that we regard the peaceful, non-violent symbolic act of burning a Koran, a book that vows violence and death against those who don't embrace Islam, and burning that book on the 9th anniversary of the day that 3,000 innocent Americans were attacked and killed in the name of Islam, as "uncivil." It's like a person who thinks going without TV for a week is really roughing it: frighteningly naive.

I could even see making a point by burning a Bible. It would have to be a pretty fine point though, in a very specific situation. God knows what is in our hearts. He doesn’t need physical objects to know this.

To: Finny; Lazamataz

I think my reasons were pretty straightforward, Finny. I did it solely to pi** them off. They pi** me off all the time, and it’s about time they share and enjoy the same feelings I have.

Especially since they are kind enough to tell us exactly what pi**es them off. I had a friend tell me once, never let them see you get pi**ed off, because if they ever want you pi**ed off, you will be.

Well, I admit they pi** me off, and if they want to do something about my pi**ing them off, come get some.

BTW, My secret FR name is Lazamataz. Read my profile some time if you want to see what else pi**es me off.

(j/k, Laz old buddy)

Such a beautiful post it needs to be posted again. I LOVE the excellent use of the word "veneer," and your explanation as to why it is so perfectly appropriate:

What needs to happen (if we are to begin to preserve all of Western Civilization) is that people need to understand that islam is NOT a religion at all. It uses a thin religious veneer for two purposes:

1. It masks the core of sharia which is a total governmental, societal, cultural and militaristic construct with the clearly stated goal of world domination. Hiding all of this behind the name of "religion" allows them to claim "religious freedoms" and governmental protections as it operates inside of Western liberal democracies to destroy them.

2. It whips its adherents into a frenzy that ultimately leads to violent and destructive acts. The sooner that we can get a majority of people in Western Civilization to refuse the pretense that this EVIL is a "religion" of any sort, the sooner we can get people to stop protecting it and start fighting it. If a reasonable person is confronted with the tenets of sharia without that thin veneer of "religion" masking its true identity and purpose, they would immediately recoil at its horror.

Veneers are always used to make something look different; quite often in woodworking they are used to mask cheap underlays or unattractive species. They can make a plywood box appear to be constructed from Mahogany boards! Same thing here, the veneer of "religion" is simply masking a death cult that wants all of us dead (or at a minimum, serving them from a position of submission).

People need to stop using the word "religion" when referring to islam and need to stop referring to their crap sandwich of a book as a "sacred text."

“This is no longer about burning a koran”

Ive been thinking the same thing lately: It’s not about the Koran anymore.

It’s about a U.S. president telling a private citizen he shouldn’t do something while ignoring much larger anti-American actions that DO deserve a warning.
