Is it straight drive, three on the column?

If so, the debilitating problem will be the shift forks wearing out. There are no after market parts to replace the wear.I had to put the shift on the floor

I sold my 78 GMC at auction two years ago after 25 years of faithful service.

We got hit hard due to "emissions crap" this year. We have a 1999 Nissan Quest van with about 165k miles on it. We were hoping to drive it into the ground--we figured it's got another good 70-100k in it at least. Our other car, a 2001 Prizm has 172k miles on it and our oldest needs a car up at school this year, so we let her take that one.

Nissan failed its emission test - both catalytic converters are bad (yes, it has two!) and with its other issues, we could not justify the cost to fix. So that left us with our 1994 Geo Metro (daughter #1's high school/work car which we are holding on to for when our 16 yr old twins get their licenses later this year).

So we were down two cars....found another Prizm 5-speed with 99k miles in beautiful shape-$1950. Snapped that up-they have their issues, but at least we know what they are. Then we rolled the dice on a third Prizm, this one only had 52k miles on it. It's been back at the shop we bought it from for more time than we've had it in our garage. The guy has been decent about working on it - hasn't charged us yet and will not until the problem is finished, but I'm hoping that this one will not be giving us trouble all the way along.

I have a 76 Chevy Dually with 454 & 8 foot bed. Pull my horse trailers with it. It has over 350,000 miles now & I will drive it until I die.

My “newer” car is a 79 Buick station wagon with an Olds 403 engine. It also is mine until I croak. It has over 195,000 miles.

I have only owned one brand new car in my whole life. 1965 Pontiac station wagon. I put 444,000 == miles on it & then sold it to a guy in Sweden who restored it. Wish I still had it. Towed the 2 horse-carried anything & still got about 18 mpg.

Remember to look for that zinc additive when you do oil and filter changes; the newer motor oils are not friendly to the older engines' flat tappet cams and lifters. Damned EPA.
